Well I was just playing around nero recode and made a movie with max definition profile and the size target range 4.7GB (a dvd) @ a video quality of 4.63MBps. I overclocked my x51 to 620mhz, same as a x51v, and got a average speed of 92.68%, it took 3 seconds longer to play then usual. The detail at 100% is astonishing as expected.

All default options except these options on: 2-pass, Extra Quality, -1204 to 1203.5, 4 motion vectors per macroblock, and Biodirectonal VOP. This encoding has worked very well for me.

TCPMP test version 0.71a
Axim X50v WM5 Processor Scheme: Auto

Here are the results on a CF card (a SD card test with a different video file will follow soon):
Average Speed: 300.74%
Video Frames: 41294
Audio Samples:83484786
Amount of Data: 170681 KB

Bench. Time: 9:32.692
Bench. Frame Rate: 72.10
Bench. Sample Rate: 145779
Bench. Data Rate: 2.4 Mbit/s

Original Time: 28:42.305
Original Frame Rate: 23.98
Original Sample Rate: 4800
Original Data Rate: 811 kbit/s

While you at it, can help check the max transfer rate of x50v CF and SD slot? (independent of tcpmp)

First of, getting a video file on my CF card on my Axim is a pain in the butt! It probably takes over one hour for 700 MB (you can tell how it's working by going to settings>storage card>CF card, and it shows how its filling last I can remember it goes at ~0.30 MB per second. If you leave the Axim and the computer transfering alone the transfering is faster (a high of ~.4-.6 per sec) So put your most favorite movie on your CF card!

As for SD slot - I have one in my computer and it works really fast 700 MBs in about 10-15 minutes (probably less if I don't mess around with my PC all the time. I think I got it transfered in 7-8 minutes once)

This is all from the top of my head! These are not fixed rates!

P.S. I'm using a Lexar 1GB Compact Flash card - I picked it up at a local Sam's Club for a great price.

I'm going to post on SD card performance of a video file in TCPMP very soon (in a couple of minutes).

Here's a Benchmark of a different file that was on my SD card the file was about 700 MB and the original data rate was 1.2 Mbit/s - so don't be suprised if the Average Speed is lower than from my CF card test; it's alot more data!

So here it goes:

TCPMP version .71a
Axim X50v WM5 Processor Scheme: Auto

Results on a 1GB SD card:
Average Speed: 218.08%
Video Frames: 44389
Audio Samples: 86198327
Amount of Data: 270440KB

Bench. Time: 13:34.161
Bench. Frame Rate: 54.52
Bench. Sample Rate: 105875
Bench. Data Rate: 2.7 Mbit/s

Orginal Time: 29:35.559
Original Frame Rate: 25.00
Orginal Sample Rate: 48000
Orginal Data Rate: 1.2 Mbit/s

By the way, the audio is encoded in AAC (automatically selected bitrate by Nero - don't remeber what it was).

Now for the theorizing and comparision - Anyone good at math? I'm going to look for my calculator now - if I do it it might be wrong so if it is some one should post the correct values. [I]The percentages and other numbers are coming soon!

O.K. - I don't know how it works! I keep getting really high numbers. Could some who knows how to get the theoratical perfect (highest bitrate to still play good) bitrate please. I've got my Benchmarks all posted clearly on this thread. Please someone do a correct summary of it and tell me how you did it (what do you multiply times what?)

My head hurts,

Hmm... guess we have different reasons for checking out tcpmp and CF & SD reperformance.

Let me share mine.

I really wish to watch some DVD on the move on my X50V, however quite sick of all this format conversion. The objective would be anytime I wish to bring along a DVD movie, just copy the VOB files into X50V external storage.

What is need for X50V to do the job?
1. A player that can handle VOB (Mpeg2) and AC3 files
2. Some mass storage, and fast enough to do provide the VOB data file.
How Big? Either 4.7GB or 9.2GB
How Fast? 900kb/s is the DVD 1X speed.

TCPMP with FFMPEG and AC3 plugin does the Job 1.
CF microdrive or SD card provide does the Job 2, they typically can do much more than 1MB/s on via PC USB2.

However, as I test out, what is stopping me is :
X50V SD transfers seems like able to do only 730KB/s
X50V CF transfers something like 600KB/s

I have yet to confirm if limitation is due to CF/SD transfer or TCPMP.
Once i get some data into X50V RAM as comparsion, i will have conclusion if TCPMP could be another fallguy as well (i doubt so).

Anyone has some other creative but sensible solution?
