have just tested:
At Max Performance - 2.2Mbit/s 270.46%
At Normal - 2.1Mbit/s 251.07%
Power-saving - 1.5 Mbit/s 179.81%
("Road Trip" in DiVX. video size 640x480, frequensy 23.980, 717 kbit/s. Audio - mp3, 96kbit/s. I cut out a bit and put in into the main memory. Using Dell Axim x50v, WM5)
My Axim rocks........ no.... My Axim R!O!C!K!S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. Take 2.2mbit/s and multiply by the 270.66% and that's the maximum bitrate or that current movie. That would be 8.1mbit/s (theoretically).

It's incredible. My palm used to choke anything higher then like 100kbps.

your flash card might limit the performance of the Axim... i have trouble playing a 6000kbps xvid
it would play like 3 seconds, then show the circle pause thing, then play another 3-5 seconds, repeat...
i wonder what are the best tcpmp settings for the X50V

Can you pls explain how did you get the numbers ?
I understand bit rate by Mbit/s but I dont understand the percentage factor.
What are they and where did they came from.
Thanks in advance
Lior

Percentage factor means that at THIS settings you can play your movie at ###% of the teoretical speed. 250% = 2.5 times faster etc..
By the way - I do not tink that you should multiply the percentage with "Mbits". The percentage, as mentioned, shows the speed and the "Mbits" show you the possible "flow of the information" from the file to you (or smth like that:S)

As mentioned above, I did it this way:
1) I have an about 700 Mb movie, "Road Trip" in DiVX. video size 640x480, frequensy 23.980, 717 kbit/s. Audio - mp3, 96kbit/s.
2) my Axim has only 40Mb of free space right now so I cut out a bit from this movie (about 5 minutes long) and placed in PDA's main memory. Then ran it from there.
3)Unfortunately I do not own an SD-card. I am planning to buy one and really hope that the speed will not decrease. At least according to what people tell about placing .tsk files to the storage card to increase speed,(if I understood right) viewing movies from the SD-card should not decrease speed.
4) I am planning to buy an SD-card soon, perhabs next week. If I really do so (;)) I will write more;)

btw.. Microdrive did not make any difference. (or almost any. Maybe it will be 1.001 times faster/slower with/without it..)
I recommend someone to download really "heavy" movie and try to run a benchmark...

Here's a test for you guys: Video file was encoded with Nero Recode Maximum Definition Profile (that's H.263); fit to size 706 MB (that's the perfect option (never goes over 702 MB -mostly perfectly 700 MB)and with a data rate of 811 kbit/s. All default options except these options on: 2-pass, Extra Quality, -1204 to 1203.5, 4 motion vectors per macroblock, and Biodirectonal VOP. This encoding has worked very well for me.
TCPMP test version 0.71a
Axim X50v WM5 Processor Scheme: Auto
Here are the results on a CF card (a SD card test with a different video file will follow soon):
Average Speed: 300.74%
Video Frames: 41294
Audio Samples:83484786
Amount of Data: 170681 KB
Bench. Time: 9:32.692
Bench. Frame Rate: 72.10
Bench. Sample Rate: 145779
Bench. Data Rate: 2.4 Mbit/s
Original Time: 28:42.305
Original Frame Rate: 23.98
Original Sample Rate: 4800
Original Data Rate: 811 kbit/s

I just did a quick test on the same clip with Processor Scheme: Maximum Performance about 3 min. less in length and it was over 3% slower than the Auto Power Scheme. So overall performance could improve as time goes on in benchmarks, or Auto Power Scheme is the best to use while using TCPMP to watch video. I'm not going to risk it and am going to use Auto all the time. Someone can test it out if they have the time - I don't right now.
Keep adding to the info about watching vids. We could make a chart after we have enough test!
Happy Thankgiving break and Testing,
P.S. I'm guessing that the latest TCPMP test version I used must have speed improvements compared to the version used in the previous thread. Please post the version of TCPMP you're using as part of your tests.
