MP3 streaming ?

Hello, have an Axim X50, I can browse the net using WIFI and see a folder on my PC containing MP3s.... but media player wont play them... is this possible, or do I HAVE to copy the file to the PDA before it will play ?

Thanks

Download TCPMP and use it to stream MP3's instead.

Have you tried to go to Shoutcast.com, save a playlist (.pls) of your choice to your Axim; turn on WiFi, use TCPMP; PocketMusic; GSPlayer or Pocket Player and open that playlist. You will get streaming fron the Intenet to your Axim....

i think he means from PC to PPC, if that, and you use iTunes, use a program called WifiTunes, it streams from the iTunes library to Axim. You must have sharing enabled in iTunes.

See this thread:

you can use GSPlayer to play mp3s DIRECTLY from server
you also can use shoutcast and icecast to stream mp3/ogg, and use GSPlayer or mortplayer to play

I've had this problem as well - but it's with the streaming media services by Microsoft... MMS://

Anyway that TCMP or another alternative will play those streams as well? Also how do you change file association in Mobile Edition - ie what program will automatically open an .mp3?

It can play streaming, but it's not very good. It'll skip and refuse to play many files. I use Imusic and can play files over the wifi without problem or skipping. You might need to set a bit of buffer on the player to use if others are accessing at the same time.

Hi, mine's a 50v and I'm pretty new at using it. I'm able to see all of my mp3s on my home network from my PPC using explorer, but when I go to gsplayer and try to navigate to the network folder I do not see any files.

In explorer I have to enter in the path to my network, so I'm thinking I might have to do something similar in GSplayer.

Any ideas?

Install Resco Explorer (there should be a trial copy on the CD that came with your Axim) as it allows you to map network shares on to the PDA's filesystem. Your shared folders will now appear in a folder called Network that is accesible by any PDA application without needing to enter anything manually. This is actually a feature of the OS and will continue to work even after you remove Resco Explorer.
