Cool New Toy

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but I just discovered it: I ripped a DVD to my computer hard drive then I can watch it on my Axim by mapping the drive with Resco and watching on TCMP. Cool. Now if I could just find a battery powered hard drive with wifi for the plane...

Edit: Ok, found this Wifi HD Enclosure

There's WiFi involved in there somewhere, isn't there? I never did get WiFi. AdHoc sounded so easy...

As said in another thread recently {by me)

I have a 4gb hitachi microdrive. No need for streaming videos over Wifi(although I do still use it occasionally to stream my library of recorded TV).

I was able to condense each film to about 120mb each without too much loss of quality. (given that it is only a 640x480 screen and the films I watch are always letterbox)

As it stands now, I have 12 movies on that drive--Not to mention 25 albums, 250 pictures, 30 games/emulators, 20 applications, and about 15 PC tools zipped and ready for transfer when needed.

And I still have room for more.

works fine for me :)

It does not kill the plane or anything, in fact some airlines are considering putting in wifi routers as a pay per thing for travelers to get internet access in planes :)

You also can use bluetooth just fine, they are all out of the range of the planes communications :)

You hit it right on the money. I know this is indeed a fact as I was in a meeting previously which involved discussion of this very thing. :approve:

Hey, this Wifi HDD enclosure is waaay too cool!!! I have never seen such a thing before... Has there been any topics on this? I searched and coudn't find anything :(

Ok, so the only problem here seems to be the battery life. How long does the battery on enclosure go, and how long does it go on the axim (suppose you're watching a movie)

Do you think that I can use this hdd enclosure instead of a microdrive? I always have a briefcase with me, and a little extra weight and space is not a problem (as long as it stays in the briefcase :) )

suggestions and experiences welcomd...

oh, it says a "power adapter" ... well, if it will be powered from an outlet, it doesn't seem so good does it? I always have my laptop with me anyways...

microdrive is the way to go ...
