A DVD copy app. to rival the quality of Fair Use?

Let me first say that I love Fair Use, and think, even in it's lite form, that it's a fantastic app. But it's too darn slow, even a single pass takes over an hour. I've tried PocketDVD Studio, which is considerably faster but whose quality, even at its highest setting, doesn't come close to Fair Use's quality.

Maybe there is something in between? Great quality and maybe not as fast as PocketDVD Studio but not as slow as Fair Use?

The reason I ask is that a friend, with whom I watched two episodes of the original Twilight Zone and who was blown away by the quality, wanted me to put some on her Axim x50. I didn't have that much time so I decided to use PocketDVD Studio. She said later that it didn't look nearly as good as my episodes and when I saw them later I had to agree. First I thought it was just her Axim, but I transferred them over to my x30H and they really did look sort of crappy, even jerky.
Though PocketDVD Studio's interface is pretty sweet, I have to admit.

But given her x50 has vga screen, I would think it would look better than mine. I've done a few more trials, all at highest settings, and each time the results are the same.

So that's it.
Any suggestions for other apps would be appreciated - thanks...!

I've used both Pocket DVD Studio and Fairuse wizard (latter thanks to AximSite members) Anyway the majority of movies I've converted were using Fairuse and I must say that its extremely slow But the quality is just too amazing. Pocket DVD studio is definitely faster and I havent really seen that much of a difference in the quality between PD studio and Fairuse. Have you checked your original episodes? Maybe its just not as good as the one you were watching before

You can try the new Dr. Divx 2.0 Open Source beta. There are still some bugs to be worked out and features to be added, but it's FREE!

Check it out at http://www.drdivx.com/...and follow the directions carefully to install it.
Move along. There's nothing to read here.

Since your friend has the x50v, did you make sure to output the video oat 640x480 rather than 320x240?

I use the programs from a guide on this forum in the Multimedia area.

I use DVD Decrypter to get the data off the disk and then Auto Gordian Knot to compress it for the PPC.

It does it in a couple hours and does an amazing job.

It isn't free but you might want to check out http://www.pocketdvd.ca/
PocketDVD has now become DVD Catalyst. The $12.95 price is now up to $17.95 as I recall. The last movie I bought and then ripped to put on my X30 is Star Wars 3. Its size is 293 meg and the audio setting is at 80 kbits stereo. Even on my Qvga I can't believe how good it looks and sounds. No, I haven't used the others but I sure like how this program performs. I will say that the interface takes some getting used to but then that doesn't affect the quality of the movie. Plus....

I second the recommendation for DVD Catalyst, which I bought recently. I tried the demos of Pocket DVD Studio and Pocket DVD Wizard and a host of others. They were more expensive for one thing, but I also found that they seemed to crash quite often, and had trouble converting a lot of DVDs. No such problem with DVD Catalyst. DVD Catalyst can also do batch processing - very useful with season DVDs. I am surprised DVD Catalyst has not been mentioned more.

I also tried Fairuse, but found the lack of user configuration very frustrating. Wizards are fine, but I also like to be able to change settings manually.
