PocketDivXEncoder only encodes 30 minutes

Hi, I'm trying to encode a ripped movie to view on my x51v.

I'm using PocketDivXEncoder and it 'successfully' completes the encoding, but when I watch the movie, it's only 30 minutes or so in length.

Anyone have any tips on how to encode the entire movie?

I've tried both the VGA and Non-VGA output.

Thanks,

It is difficult to answer your question without more information.

How big is the file size? How big is your memory card or are you transferring the file to Main memory or BIS?

Are you watching the encoded movie on your X51v or on your desktop?

What Video and Audio quality settings are you using?

I have recently encoded a 2hour 14 minute VGA movie on my Igb CF card in a 620 MB file. I set video quality to 33, Audio Quality to 6, use 2 pass encoding and 15 frames per second. The results are superb quality video.

Maybe a program that you might have used before putting the file into Pocket Divx Encoder, only output the first 30min.

I'm encoding to my desktop harddrive, which has a lot of space.
I checked the vob file, it's 4 gig, and plays to the end of the movie.

I'm using the 'Direct encoding' option and not the 'Encode all'...does that make a difference?

Thanks,

whenever i rip vob files the time is always messed up (as in it shows maybe 1 hour for a 2 hour movie). it still plays to the end, it just displays the time wrong.

"Direct Encoding" is fine. But you still haven't said how big the *.avi file is, what Audio and Video settings you are using and whether the *.avi file plays on your desktop and, if so, for how long.

It said it stopped at 30 minutes for me too but in reality the program continues to create the file. Just look at the file on your hard drive and you can see it getting bigger. Pretty annoying bug.

Thanks for the responses folks, I'll get there one of these days.

I put settings to VGA output, 20 fps, video at around 33 and audio at 6, 2 passes.

At these settings, I'm supposed to get around 700 MB (I think) but only get around 50 MB or so.

Funny thing is that about a hour into the encoding, it would still say about 3 hours left to encode, then 10 mins later, it would say completed. I can play the resulting AVI file on my x50v but it plays only the first 30 minutes and stops and I still have lots of space on my desktop HD.

If I check the completion log, it says something about missing codecs and other 'error' messages, but as far as I know, I have all that's required.....maybe I need to reinstall.

I'll let it keep going and check to see if the file gets larger....

Thanks,

U R right SevenNine...the avi file keeps getting larger even though Pocketdivxencoder says finished.
It kept going and finished to the end.

Thanks again..

The "time to complete" indications of PocketDivxEncoder are indeed weird and wonderful. Your settings are fine and you should get about a 700MB .AVI file for a 3 hour movie.

You are using 2 pass encoding (very wise) but it is possible you are seeing the "Finished" message at the end of Pass 1. It will then go on to complete Pass 2.
