I think I've got DVDs figured out. Am I right?

I've been reading all the long threads and I think I'm good to go.

My X51v comes in Tues or Wed, but I wanted to be ready...

I downloaded FairUse and AutoGK

I ran my dvds through FU and when they were done, I sent them through AGK.

I saved them at 250mb and now they are playing through WM on my desktop seemlessly.

Is that all I had to do, and now all I'll have to do is save them to my SD?

I bought the 1gig compact SD from dell, and I also have a Sandisk Magicgate Pro 512. Will both of these work for movies?

Thanks bros

Well the first part is what I do... then I use TCPMP to play them instead of AGKing them into WM

And use a USB2 Cardreader to transfer them straight to the media you've got
This week I have been mostly listening to..... Short cummings audio

x51v uses usb2 for transferring as far as I know. I haven't done any benchmarks, but it's hella faster than my x5 was.

I did download tcmp V0.71(setup.exe), and when I double click it, it says it will install on PPC. So when it comes in, I can then just install it and then transfer the movies?

I have a card reader that my company picked up with a digital camera. It's a USB card reader. Any way to tell if it's a 2.0? I don't have the box or anything, just the unit (at the office).

I use a program called DVD to Pocket PC to rip my DVD's to Windows Media Format. (http://www.makayama.com/dvdtopocketpc.html) I also use a USB card reader to transfer the ripped movie to my CF or SD card... much faster!

remember this, a 1 gb flash card will not store 4 x 250 mb movies. I'd bump up the resolution a bit to around 300mb.

I just saved a Dora dvd, for my nieces, to 500mb and there's not a single glitch.

Yes.. you got it.

Personally, I use Pocket DVD Studio... 3 hour DVD compressed down to 700 MB full screen 640x480! Since I usually only carry 1 movie at a time on my 1GB SD card.. I prefer the higher MB count. I love the DVD studio's "1 click" method of conversion... takes a few hours.. but the results are very nice.

USB Card Readers are the way to go... I have an internal one in my machine.. paid $20 for it and the best thing I ever did.. use it like 2 times a week! Fast and easy... 700MB file transfered to SD card this morning in 3 minutes...

Good luck with your new axim!
