Hmm How do you watch recorded TV shows on your PPC?

I have recorded tv shows on a dvd and need to know how to transfer them onto my ppc and watch them.

How can I do this?
If you can't have the best of everything, make the best of everything you have.

IMO, it's really more trouble than it's worth. I used to convert DVDs to an divx/avi file using Fairuse2; however, the quality would degrade substantially and storage space is limited.

I've since bought an Archos AV500 mobile DVR for storing all my music files, photos, and movies/shows. It will connect to any device with an RCA output and record direct from the video signal. It connects to your satellite/cable box and acts like a TIVO for recording your shows when you want, for you to watch later. Video quality is excellent. You can watch the vids on your device (extremely crisp and bright display), or plug it into a monitor/tv later for viewing. It even has a USB host feature, so you can connect it to an external HDD, camera, etc, and capture files at will. I opted for the 100GB HDD model, but you can also get a 30GB model. On the 100GB, I presently have a little over 200 CDs, 500+ photos, and 30 movies, with over 50GB of storage remaining. Amazing device.

I was going to buy an iPod, and the Apple dealer talked me into the Archos! It's far superior to the iPod in most every way (I previously owned 2 different iPods, and ended up giving them away as gifts), yet costs the same.

So if you want your x50V to perform as a movie player (or music player for that matter), prepare for limitations. If you can afford to get an Archos, I'd highly recommend it! I now use my PDA for what it was meant!

My first suggestion would be to read the first 3 stickies here in the multimedia area. They will give a good idea of how to do what you want to do for free. Another option is to check out this thread http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=103954
Encoding dvds involves a lot of personal preference and you'll prolly want to try several options.
PS to ValkyrieRider, I just saw the Archos yesterday at Sharper Image. That is an impressive unit.

akretsch....

I re-read my post, and I came across a bit harsh on the X50V. I use mine HEAVILY, every day, and would be lost without it. And I always try and 'push the envelope' with it. I had a lot of fun for the first year converting movies, recorded shows, etc, as well as storing as many songs as I could on the storage cards. Everyone was always amazed at what a cool device it is!!!

Then I found the Archos. It is absolutely amazing, and GREAT at what it was built for. Just as the X50V is GREAT at what it was built for! I've learned to carry both, and have the best of both worlds.

I didn't mean to imply you were being "harsh." My first thought was simply to go a bit closer in the direction that funcube2 seemed to be seeking help, that's all. My favorable statement about the Archos stands. If I were going for a device specific audio/video entertainment platform (and could afford two devices), I don't anything out there today would come close. Especially cool is the ability to use the Archos like a Tivo that you can take with you. Plus, you don't have to worry about how many movies you can get on a 1 gig SD card like I do!

I Had an Archos for about 4 days. The unit has a gorgeous screen. However mine died three days out, simply refused to turn back on after doing a file transfer. I read various things on the net that told me this had happened to others. I was scared to exchange the unit and have this happen again out of warranty. 3 days is too short to have something die that costs $650. I liked the Archos but I had doubts on its durability

Well I hope the hoster left in the commercials

I used fairuse wizard light to rip some "The Avengers" episodes from DVDs. Dead easy.

I use Pocket DVD Studio.. takes a while to convert but I love it.. I've been watching the shows on my PPC and just love it... Sure.. the jukebox type units are great but I like being able to use my $500 PPC for something other than appts and games.. this just adds to its appeal for me (and I like showing it off to others!). Good Luck!

Looks really great, only problem is future PPC will probably have no CF slot, looks like two SDs but for now looks really good,
Thanks for the Tip, Will definitely buy this unit.

why get stand alone units? a HTPC is only $320 CAD!!!!!!! tax in

a HTPC will do WAY more things than a stand alone unit, also most units dont have DVI/HDMI out where as most video cards nowadays has it standard, even the cheap radeon 9250/geforce4 mx
