Dish DVR to PC

Is there any way of connecting a Dish DVR to a PC. There are a few shows and movies that I would like to get onto the computer so that I can convert them to play on the PPC. Thanks for any help that is given. :approve:

You would need an ATI All-in-wonder video card or similar. If your dvr is like my Direct TV tivo then it has rca out's for vcr recording.

DVD Recorder for me

I tried the Hauppauge Video Card in my computer connected to the DirecTV Dish, worked ok, but for me the best way was a DVD recorder to record directly from the dish then play that DVD on my computer and convert the shows or movies to AVI files with Pocket DVD Studio.

Quality is really great and I keep the DVDs if it something I want to keep or rewrite them if they are expendable. I use DVD-RW disks to record on so they are rewriteable.

Enjoy,
Locutus

I would try snapstream.com. You can buy a bundle there w/ a tv tuner, or get the tuner seperately at bestbuy or another place and just use the software. The snapstream software is awesome. Once you have a tuner card/device installed, you can set snapstream up to record TV and automattically convert the show to make it PPC compatible via WMV or Divx. You can also control your recordings remotely from another PC using a web based gui. It will also allow you to stream recorded shows to your PPC, however, I wasn't able to get it to work. I didn't spend too much time tinkering w/ that feature though. If anything, they offer a 21 day trial download. The best thing about this software, was that it worked right "out of the box". I really didn't have too much to figure out. Download-install-configure...and it all worked!

FYI...the size of the files were about 300 mb for 1hr of good quality video. I got it down to 170 mb for decent/fair.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions...I'd be glad to help.

wow!

That's about the coolest thing I've seen since I heard about the axim! How big are the files say for 30 min or 1 hr? Is the quality pretty good?

Thanks!
Ed

Not sure if its like the Tivo as there is Tivo ToGo which transfers files from TIVO to PC. Then I use TVHarmony to convert the .tivo files to .mpg... The file is really big..about 1GB per hour so I use PocketDVD to shrink the file to about 100 mb (1 hr show) which fits nicely on my SD card.
Hope this helps!
