TCPMP Struggles
I am trying to open a .mp4 video using TCPMP but I get an error:
"Player: MPEG4 AAC Audio decoder not included! It was removed from the official install package because of intellectual property considerations."
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That's because of DRM stuff.

There is no audio because the AAC decoder is removed from the latest TCPMP.

Should I try installing an earlier version?
Currently I have 0.71 installed.
Same problem when using the earlier version.
Is there any way to add the AAC decoder?

Look for version 0.66e. It has the required AAC Decoder and works great. I rip all my DVD's to MP4/AAC using Nero Recode and they play beautifully.

v0.66 ?? I would recommend using the latest test version.

The AAC plugin you have will work with it and there is also an "experimental" AVC decoder plugin that Picard recently wrote that works quite well.

Is it a .a4v file or an .m4v file?

The test version of TCPMP works much better for AVC (aka H.264) encoded videos versus the current released version. As mentioned, the unofficial plugin is necessary for AAC encoded audio. For links and specific recommendations on TCPMP versions, see

Turns out all I needed to do the entire time was a soft reset.
Now running v.071d + AC3 plugin & Betaware AAC plugin.
Thanks for the advice everyone!
