Its free and seems to have the features, but I haven't tried it yet.
I just tried it, not exactly what I was looking for, but cool none the less. It's not like ORB which lets you stream music from your computer to your Pocket PC. This program lets you control the music playback on your computer from your PocketPC. Its basically a kick ass wifi remote. It lets you select by artist, album, genre or track and control the volume and playback. Its defintely cool.

I find it awsome for people who have a huge music collection

i couldn't get orb to work for streaming video or audio, some wierd Windows Media player error. I was able to get Windows Encoder on the LAN to stream mp3 and wmv files or even from my TV turner. the trick is to use mms://computername:8080/*, the normal http://computername:8080 doesn't work, neither does mms://computername:8080, /* is a must for me. This is a X51V A06

I've never had any problems, thats why i recomend it. When you said you had a wierd WMP error, do you mean on the PPC side or the Computer side. I use TCPMP, and I forget WMP for PPC. Try using TCPMP and set it to openj the files ORB uses. I think that they are .asx

What is the best solution for creating a playlist of media stored on a NAS?

My desktop has crashed and my wife and I usually work with our laptops which don't always stay on. I've got a Hawkeye enclosure on the way to create a server using the harddisk from the failed desktop.

I have about 10G of music on my laptop that I am planning on copying to the NAS. I use WMP on the laptop, so i figure a I don't want it to search for the network media.

My understanding after reading a couple of threads is to use Winamp to create an "All music" playlist and copy that playlist to my PPC for use with TCPMP.

Is this the best approach? Will the Winamp playlist provide album/artist/genre?

An update...

I copied some of my music to the new NAS. I used Resco Explorer to map the drive. I noticed after I updated the library it appeared under "my device."

I guess this makes sense since I use the option in Resco to place the network map under my device. I was hoping WMP would create a separate "network" library, but this will work since I don't store music in main memory.

I was concerned when I wasn't connected to the network I would receive file errors, but I can use the "CF Card" library for local music.
