what is the best bitrate for videos on the x51v?

I got dvd catalyst/pocket dvd and i'm trying to find the balance between quality and size. I have tried lower bitrates (400-500) and it produced good images but when the movie panned it got jumpy. I understand that i'll sacrifice a bit of quality but I really don't like the jumpyness. so anyone got any experience with either this program or vga movie bitrates and sizes?

I use PocketDivxEncoder and I find that a bit rate of 542kbps (Setting Video Quality to 33) gives excellent quality combined with a reasonable file size (774 MB for a 2hour 43 minute VGA movie). There is no jerkiness whatever. I encode at 15 frames per second. This does not reduce the file size, but it does reduce the load on the processor which gives smoother playback. Hope this helps.

I also use PocketDivxEncoder (the newest version 0.3.6). I leave the default video and audio settings for "VGA device". This gives near-DVD quality video with near-CD quality stereo sound. 2 hours of widescreen video fits on a 1GB card. I believe the bitrate is 1200. You could probably get by with lower than that, but I prefer higher quality to smaller file size.

I usually Set at 1000 I find that gives a good balance. 15FPS is ok for animation but I would never use than on a live action show/movie

I use dvd catalyst at 700kbs to get smooth play back. It converts 43min to a 190mb file. I also set the audio to mono. It's pretty ok with headphones.

15fps has been proven to be able to reproduce fluid motion even in fast action scenes you just dont want to go lower than 15fps and also keep a decent bitrate because too low a bitrate can cause stuttering also and like mentioned earlier its easier on your cpu than 24fps or 30fps plus uses less battery since your screen doesnt have to refresh twice as fast for 30fps

Thank you axilla. I entirely agree :approve: . 15fps works perfectly for me without any trace of flicker or breakup.

i usually do 600-700kbps for most movies, which gives me ~500mb for most full-length movies.
