Here you can download the latest beta - or in this case rather a "beta of a beta". Which is why it's not published on my page currently. It worked fine for me, but there were several changes that could cause problems...
This time, it's a PC setup.
The new beta includes a new way to modify the settings, which is extracted to an external program. This saves some memory in the main program (currently about 80kB, I think I can free about 10kB more, but I have to be careful which texts can be removed...) and simplyfies it for me to add new options or reorganize them (any suggestions are welcome).
The player now supports a "relative preamp", i.e., the preamp slider ranges from off to the preamp setting of the current preset (or user modified equalizer setting). You can modify this in "Handling" or with the "Mode wizard", additionally it's possible to set an initial value in "Program start" (similar to the initial system volume).
Another new option is to repeat the alarm sound. Currently, this can only be set in Setup/Settings, i.e. not in "Alarm settings" of the Sleep/Alarm clock dialog.
Last not least, you can repeat a track infinitely. In former versions, MortPlayer reset the default repeat mode after the track was repeated once. Now you can avoid this in "Shuffle/Repeat".
Apart from this, I tried to minimize the gaps between tracks once more and fixed several minor bugs (e.g. plug-ins didn't work in other paths than the default, extensions from plug-ins can be assigned to MortPlayer).
Currently not working options: Fade-in for alarm clock, file selection when a directory/playlist was chosen. These, I added as personal reminder and to test the new settings program.
I fixed some minor bugs (e.g. the alarm file sometimes wasn't shown) and added an audio book option in the favorites. Folders or playlists marked as "audio book" get a special treatment, like automatically saving/restoring the last positions, omit from playback order (so you don't have to skip the long files if you want to listen to music), etc.
A suggestion:
I have a Qtek 9000 headphone that has a button to answer calls on the Qtek. I use it on my Axim X51V and I can't map this button on MortPlayer, even with the option to assign an unmapped button. But it works perfectly on TCPMP. It maps it as App 10.
Can you try to work on this? It would be great! :)
Another idea is to do a press-for-a-while mode so, after pressing the button for 2 seconds, for example, it maps another function.

If I had the slightest clue how to do it, it would work already. But sadly Windows doesn't send the usual button messages for this button...

Included since ages... The device buttons work the same way as on the screen, e.g. next track -> fast forward, next list -> next track, ...
Another update...
- There were some bugs in the settings program, which should now be fixed
- All setting texts can be translated in setup.ini (currently only done in German version)
- Some small optical changes in the settings program
- Audio book support: List skip buttons now include the audio books, but they'll be ignored during playback, even if you started in the audiobook folder. That is, starting with the first list change. With "Shuffle all" the selected file, with every other shuffle order, the audio book list is played to end, but then never again skipped to.
Thanks... I've just tried Mort Player for the first time... and I've got to say I'm really enjoying using it :)

MortPlayer was already my player of choice, but you just keep on making it better and better! FWIW, mine works flawlessly on my x51v A06 with the myPod skin.
I was very excited about the 'select single files' ability, but it didn't work like I expected. What I though was going to happen was that the contents of the directory would be loaded as a playlist, but nothing would begin playing until I scrolled through the playlist and selected a file. In other words, I thought it was going to allow me to add the whole directory as a playlist (like before this feature came along) but then let me select where the playlist began playing. Am I missing something? If not, is there a way to do that through the playlist view instead of the file explorer dialogue??
What should this be good for? There would be no difference to the default, except that it doesn't start playing. You can select another track by mapping "Move playlist selection" to buttons (the iPod skin also includes them in the wheel) and pressing play afterwards.
Well, it isn't a 'huge' concern, but it saves a little time because I don't have to wait for the first song to load, skip it, and then wait for the song I want to hear to load.
This is useful for when you say to yourself "I want to listen to X song by Y artist on Z album and then I want to listen to the rest of the album." Again, I'm not switching players anytime soon! It just didn't behave as I expected. Mortplayer is still the best mp3 player out there by a LOT.
However, I could ask you the same question... what exactly is the purpose of the current 'select files' mode?
Fixed another bug... (Download links in the usual post...)
In recent versions, I wrote the default path to the registry, and read from there later on. Since b11, I don't write the default path but use it if there's no other set (the "<MortPlayer path>\..." options in the settings reflect this). This way, one does not need to modify the paths if the player's reinstalled (updated) to another directory.
Sadly I missed to do this at some locations, like saving the favorites or reading the available skins in the skin selection.
Most beta users did update from an earlier version that wrote the path to registry, so it doesn't matter there. But there are troubles if you have installed it from scratch or uninstalled the old version...
