Of course humour is a matter of taste and clearly
jhening and I are in a considerable minority. But to suggest that, because I don't think "The Office" is funny, I should "...stay away from all things comedic" is ridiculous.
For me comedy must be
witty. There is precious little witty comedy on UK TV at present (except for "Have I Got News for you" which is totally Brit and unlikely to be shown outside the UK). I found "The Life of Brian" moderately amusing - except for the final scene when Brian sang "Always look on the bright side of life" which was truly hilarious. I loved Monty Python, especially the early editions (many years ago now), but I was not wild about Fawlty Towers which was too manic for me (in the vast minority again). Another truly witty UK series was "Yes Minister" followed by "Yes Prime Minister" but again these were so British that I doubt is they were screened elsewhere. They were also shown many years ago.
But most current UK "comedy" is people shouting brawling and generally using foul language and totally lacking in wit. A great pity.
