coolhand, are you using landscape or portrait? in portrait mode i have no sync issues (well at least for a 24min avi, which is the longest i've watched on the axim). i'm using 218kbit video, 2 pass, and 56kbit 22khz stereo sound using the standard fraunhoffer codec (if your original audio is 44khz don't forget to convert it to 22khz as well). oh and i'm using full framerate for the encodes

portrait, 180/220 video-half/full frame rate, various audio settings...44, 22, stereo, mono....etc...like others i had been watching shorter vids, while encoding and testing longer vids for dropped frames etc, but not actually watching them...now ive discovered that the videos ive encoded, while they play great with only a couple droped frames, the audio is starting in sync, and going out of synch by a second or so for most of the movie....of course they play in perfict synch on the desktop, and aviinfo shows everything is ok...so, theres obviously more to this then preventing dropped frames...
ive got the same vid being encoded portrait, 220k, high, med and low audio settings.....will know in a few hours which one works best...

im just puzzled now....im going to try an older version of divx and see whats going on....ive allready tried different mp3 codecs, two different versions of vdub...only other component is divx....
i cant see it being the axe, though i may try another version of pmvp....the axe will play everything from low quality half frame rate mono sound video to a high bitrate, full framerate, 128k stereo audio video with not a hickup....it just cant seem to get it together sync wise...

i doubt you'd get any syncing issues with wmv.. Even at high res, even though I get dropped frames, the video/audio stays perfectly in sync.
coolhand, yo'ure sure you're not getting any sync issues when playing on your desktop? do you have anything else running while you're doing the encode?

Movie Maker 2 only outputs .wmv files for Pocket PC.
Kinda sounds like coolhand is having about the same problem I had, which is why this thread exists to start with, although it also sounds like he's having problems in either viewing mode.
Near as I could tell, the whole issue I was having was getting two codecs together (along with the viewing window size and framerate) that would use roughly the same CPU resources, keeping the audio/video in sync. The problem I had with the 22Khz mono with almost any DivX bitrate was the video took more CPU so on the PPC the audio would play ~ 1 second before it should have, but the desktop was perfectly synched. In portrait view, those settings are fine, and with the Fraunhofer codec, but for landscape (so far at least) I have had to use the Lame codec, and stereo, to get the audio to stay synched.
