DVD's

Okay I have noticed that there are some tutorials for converting DVDs to watch on your PPC. I am still learning lots and I need a really easy way to download and watch DVD on my PPC. Does anyone know anything about DVD to Pocket PC from www.makayama.com or PocketDVD 2.0 from www.pocketdvd.ca? Also what about sites like www.mymusicinc.com If you download DVD's off of sites like this do you still have to convert them or can you just drop it onto you SD card and watch it using Windows Media Player? Please let me know as I have a 2 day flight to Africa and would like to enjoy watching movies on my PPC (The battery on my Portable DVD player only lasts 3 hours and takes 4 to charge and I've been told I can fit 8 DVD movies on my SD 50x Card) Anyway thanks for any tips.

Well, first of all, what size sd card do you have? I've heard that the easiest one-step program is fairuse. If you use a website to download dvd's make sure that you have the original dvd disc. Downloading it otherwise woul be insanely illegal, and against the thread rules. We have a few tutorials which you mentioned. Following those excatly should be of good help. Here is a link to the fairuse program:

PS The program is free. You can buy it if it works great for you, but you dont have to.

Okay pocket DVD 2 is now DVD catylyst, and that is what i mainly use, lots of different formats, for lots of different devices including psp and ipod :) . I'd give it about 4.5 stars out of five, it's easy and you can obatain very small file sizes the downsize is it can be a bit slow sometimes. DVD to pocket pc i've heard is fast, but you have a lot less control over your final movies. Personally i'd use DVD catylyst or DVD shrink and pocket divx encoder(it's free, fast and good quality). For more info, i have links to most of theses in my 'my pda'

I use FairUse and there is a "sticky" post guide on how to encode - FairUse do a free lite version that works equally well and I normally allow around 100MB per 30mins of video. The only thing you'll need (if you don't already have it, is the DivX codec which is free to download.

I've tried a few others but FairUse is the best I've come across - the onlty thing you may find especially if its a movie and you are doing a 2 pass encoding (which is recommended) is that its best to start it running and go to bed - it takes a while and FairUse will shut the PC down once its finished.
