GSPlayer and my... 1GB SD Card. I need more memory, and that's 5 days a week for you (or any time traveling). I found MortPlayer a pain to handle inside my coat pocket (I have both installed)
Why is GSPlayer better than Mort? I looked at GS's home page and it looks like the controls are not finger-friendly like Mort is. Does it let you map hardware buttons better than Mort?
cool, thx for the replies, but dont u find skipping track a problem or when u want to pause since u need to open your cover(if u have one) and then take the styles then press whatever u want compared to using a 'mp3' player where u just flick the switch (or press the button) and hey presto its done
I use mortplayer and there are a couple of new skins that have really large buttons. I also use it with BT headphones and control volume and now next previous from the headphones.
I even use it in the car and with the new Mypod and Glass skins, it is really easy to control. I also bought a silicon case, that I have removed the flip cover and fashioned an armband to so I can jog with it and hit the large bottoms, if I have, too. The backlight goes off, but it does not take it long to wake up. Several hours is not a problem using it like this.
For movies, I ususally have it plugged in with the travel charger either AC or DC. All in all some pretty good entertainment for a business expense!
I use my x51v very often as an mp3 player (2 hours a day). It does a good job. TCPMP is the software that gives all-buttons-assignment option so I do not have to take it out of my jacket everytime I want to get the next song.
Perhaps there are other applications allowing this.
The only downside I find is that there is no remote control (volume, previous or next song, etc.) on the market. How come Ipod has and X51v does not? It could have been much better with a something with ascreen and buttons hanging out of my jacket.
Actually i use a seperate mp3 player. It is a cheap one, but still gets many hours of battery life on one aaa. I love my axim too much to use it as a mp3 player. It also has bad battery life with the 1100mah battery, and i need to get a bigger card. Maybe if i just got a few things for my axim it would be alot better mp3 player.

You'd be surprised how much battery life you get (even from the 1100 battery) when you turn the screen off. All the major players can do this (GSPlayer, TCPMP, Mortplayer, etc), and let you map hardware buttons to switch the screen. I've listened to music for over 4 _hours_ on the standard battery, and still had plenty of charge left. Those of us with bigger batteries can do even better :)
I listen a minimum of 4 hours a day in the morning. I listen to a few hours of podcasts and then switch to music. I've gotten over 6 hours on a charge once but it drained it down to about 7%. I'ld like to get a 1800 battery for the times when I do drain it down to almost nothing.

I don't like the flipping screen on Mort -- I force display off but Mort switches it back on the second I release the display switch (any solutions?); also Mort got the lag when skipping songs. Hardware mapping is the same across, and the both playlists isn't too finger friendly either, since the hardware buttons replaced the on screen controls. The playlist on the main screen is a BIG plus (since I set the up/down and action button to manipulate the playlist, all that in my pocket)

Precisely!!
The screen and wireless rapidly drain the battery.
If you turn the screen off and excercise smart energy conservation behavior, you'll find a single charge go a long way.
I have broken down and bought a second battery for those instances of prolonged periods away from my craddles either at home, work or car but I rarely need the 2nd battery. It is nice to have it when you do though!:approve:
The screenoff/lock funtion has always worked flawlessly for me. My buttom mapping scheme makes it easy to control everything single handed. Here's how I map the buttons:
Button 1: Open Dialogue
BUtton 2: Next Screen (toggles between playlist and Main screen)
Button 3: Screensaver-Lock
BUtton 4: Default (which is today screen... doubles as minimize)
Action Button: Play/Pause
Left/Right: Prev/Next
Up/Down: Scroll Playlist
Button 5: Volume Down
Button 6: Volume Up
With that setup, I can easily access any thing I want very easily. I use the mypod skin, so I can get to eq. and shuffle mode with my fingers (since I rarely use them). The 'Next Screen' button is especially nice w/ the myPod skin so you can leave it on the awesome looking main screen, but then easily switch over to the playlist if you want to listen to a nearby song while in shuffle mode.

You might try enabling the 'Lock' feature in the screensaver mode. You also would want to get the latest versions at Mort's site. He has updated it significantly lately.

Cool that u can jog with it, i dont listen to anything currently but then again 3k isn't that long- and it would probably be annoying to have it when running relatively quickly. :rolling:

I don't use it for MP3 due to battery life. My mobile phone (SLVR L7) is a better source for MP3's then the Axim as you would get 8 hours on the phone and 2.? on the Axim.
My GB CF Card sits empty for that reason on the Axim.
That's the reason I got the 2200 mAh extended battery :) .
i have 2 batteries and they seem to last me exactly 1 work day. i do not conserve energy near as much as i could though. for the moment, i put the power saving on power saving mode (processor speed), and i turn the dim screen to 1 minute. i don't turn off wifi, and didn't know about the screen saver option.
i currently use tcpmp, but am considering looking into other options as the shuffle feature of tcpmp sucks horribly (it shuffles the songs exactly the same way every time).
