MP3 software conversion process

I don't know which forum to put this in so here it goes. Sonic came preinstalled on my computer when I bought my Dell XPS Gen 5. However, I don't see where I can convert my Audio CDs to MP3 so I can use MortPlayer. The standard file is WMA which is not recognized by Mort. What software do you know of, possibly free, that I could install on my computer to make a high quality conversion (variable bit, etc.)?

The Pro version of Winamp is not free but very good sound quality vs file size results can be achieved. It even has an option to create m3u playlists automatically.

Just use windows media player. It is preinstalled on your pc if you have xp. Put a cd in to rip, and go to the rip tab im wmp. To switch the quality, go to tools, options rip music. You will either have wmp9 or wmp10 on your system by defualt. Either version works perfectly.

I have WMP 10 on my computer, but I am pretty sure it doesn't give you the option for MP3, just WMA or WAV (I think).

Media Player does do mp3. Go to options->Rip Music->Format drop down menu

Choose mp3 from the list. You could also set the audio quality (compression level) for your mp3.

You might want try using ogg vorbis for your mort player instead of mp3. I think ogg vorbis has bette compression ratio and is widely supported by freeware programs.

I have used dbPowerAmp from www.download.com and am happy with the quality of MP3 ripped from the CDs. You can play with the bitrate too. Current version is 11, I used version 9 which was free with unlimited use! :) Version 11 too should give you 15days of service. So stack up the CDs and then install the sw
