Pocket DVD Wizard
After reading the threads here, I just want to voice my opinions as a newbie.
I have read comments made by users of various commerical DVD conversion software and then bought the Pocket DVD Wizard (about US$29). Since I only have this program I cannot judge it from the rest other than judge it on its own functionality.
I tried converting various genre of motion pictures of various length. Magadascar, Valiant, Polar Express, Robots, Lord of the Rings, Myth, Seven Swords, etc. I did them in various screen sizes and memory sizes. My computer is an average computer ( with a Gforce 5500 256Mb card; 768Mb Ram, 2.4G hz; 60Gb HD with a few programs in it). I conclude that Wizard is only an average program with a 5 out of 10 full points.
The success rate of full conversion and shutting down my computer is about 3 out of 10 movies. One action movie has colour bleeding, choppy and needed a lot of attention before I get a decent movie converted. Even in normal movement, such as a slow raise of the hand or head, there is colour bleeding and frizziness, so it is not the action alone.
Originally after reading threads on the free softwares, I conclude that I may not be able to put together a decent free working program to convert movies, thus I bought this software. But now I realise that even with DVD wizard, there are problems with the functions. I do not like the feeling of leaving the computer on all night and realised that it has halted right after I went to sleep. Several nights I woke up thinking of what has been converted and have to turn off the whole computer because it has stopped converting for no reason. I conclude also that converted a movie in 2 or 3 parts has better chances of success than doing it all in one go.
Because I have bought the software, I am determined to use it to convert movies. I feel a little sorry for myself for bringing on more trouble for myself. I have thought of just buying a portable 7" DVD player and just play the DVD on it for my children to watch when the need arises. Besides, the DELL 51v I does not have the best screen for movies on the move anyways.
I am hoping that the developer will do a better job with it with the next release. I am not expecting rocket science, but losing sleep over a supposedly small problem is not worth it. The software is suppose to part of a solution, but it has turn out to give me more white hair on my head.
Maybe there is no better program for DVD conversion, maybe Catalyst is the better answer than this one.
Just a line on the TCPMP. It is a much better player than the WMP that comes with the DELL 51v. The WMP halt when changing screen to landscape and then back to portrait on many occasions.
Thanks for reading.
