Best movie conversion for the $$$
Great tutorials, lots of info in the stickies, as well as an abundance of information on certain programs but the bottom line for me is I am not willing to spend the 4-6 hours to convert movies to view on my x51v.
I'd much rather spend $25, insert a dvd and press a couple of buttons and be done with it. So what program provides for best quality conversions. I have a decent screen, I'd like to use it. Thanks
Edit #1:
I have read a little about DVD Cryter and I read that Pocket DVD Wizard by Codingworkshop was pocket magazines proggy of the year but does anyone have first hand experience. Maybe also with FairUse and Lathe some other proggies I have read mentioned.
Edit #2
Tried CloneDVDmobile but the files are way too large and there is no way to force a widescreen into a normal screen, so this one is a no.

Try Pocket DVD Studio. The output is very configurable (including VGA option). The product is updated / upgraded often. I have been using it for about 1 1/2 years, and I am happy with my results.

You may also want to give DVD Catalyst a try ( link in my Sig) It comes with a nice trial period so you can try before you buy.

Only thing holding me back is that there is supposed to be a new version in the works but no eta as he says, the developer, that he bit off a little more than he could chew in features.

DVD Catalyst (formerly PocketDVD) has a good trail version so you can actually tell how it works on a full movie. I bought this one because of the good trial & it works well.

I completely agree. It's not only free, it's fast, and only takes like two clicks to get a movie ripped once you plug in the target file size.

Tried Codingworkshops Pocket DVD Wizard and although it is simple to use and files are managable the video is quality is okay and the performance is choppy. Now this may of course be a limitation of my device or a byproduct of the compression but I am gonna keep checkin.

Another vote for FairUse, once you set it up you just leave it to run.

Which one is the faster? Fairuse or DVD Catalyst?

DVD Catalyst is the fastest...But then again, it is not free. And NickySantoro, don't let holding off on a new version stop you because if you buy it you will be intitled to free upgrades of the product.

Does speed really matter? Its going to take a long time no matter what. Now if there was a program that could do an entire movie in <10 minutes thats one thing but shaving a few minutes of here and there does not mean much to me because under such situations Ill start a rip then walk away from the computer. Consequently, I focus more on ease of use and price. Fairuse gets top scores in both of those areas.

I'm a rookie here so I'm not sure if my opinion counts. But here it is anyway!
I used fairuse the other day to copy a wiggles DVD. I copied it down to 350mb.
I am very happy with the results and the ease of use. My only concern is that it was a little time consuming.
Does anyone know if the "full", pay version of FU is any faster??
Thank you,
Paul

The paid versio isn't any faster it just has no restrictions on file size like the lite version - I usually get the average 1.5hr movie down to 300MB and I usually set it before I turn in for the night; I think its the 2 pass encoding that really takes the time though personally I'd rather have a good result that took a little longer than some of the crap I've had from other "paid for" DVD converters.
