What is the best CD ripping program?
Hi everyone...
I was reading some of the threads and was interested in purchasing a program that can convert an WMA file to an MP3 file. I understand, if you do it in that sequence (from WMA to MP3, by someone on this forum), you will ultimately land up with a "smaller" file that will not suffer any worse for quality (correct?). I have a version of Roxio that will convert an audio file to a WMA...but not MP3 without purchasing an upgrade. What additional program would you suggest I purchase that would handle the conversion (and compression) from there? I am staying away from Roxio secondary to the numerous complaints about their newer version software. Also, what do you think of the current version of: PocketMusic MP3 & WMA PLAYER Bundle by PocketMind available at Handango (any discounts out there on this)? My objective is to just get the smallest file (stored on my 1 Gig CF card), highest quality sound, with the most play options (like an equalizer and decent playlist) as possible. Thanks for any advice you might have for me. Have a great Memorial Day Holiday!

I worked with a couple mp3 release groups from EFNET over the years this this combination seems to be the standard.
To rip from cd to .wav use this app called "EAC" or Exact Audio Copy you can get it here http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/eac6.html to then encode to .mp3 from .wav use this app "Razor Lame" you can download it here http://www.dors.de/razorlame/download.php and lastly for the second app you need to get the latest version of the LAME codec. you get it here http://home.pi.be/~mk442837/ . an extra note you may be able to eliminate the second app "Razor Lame" as i think that EAC now supports ripping straight to mp3 using the "LAME CODEC" as far as converting wma files to other formats. i have not done this but am sure there are many apps capable of this. Hope this at least helped a little

You might want to look into Ogg Vorbis format too, see the archived article on this Pocket PC Magazine's site:
