yes, yes and yes. :)

Although when ripping the DVD it did not give me the option to hit next on steps 4, 6 through10. I see the screens that are on the tutorial, but it auto to the next steps.

Error Message

I used this tutorial and it went smoothly, but when I went to the folder I created for the movie and tried to open or even highlight the finished file, a message came up that said Windows Explorer has encountered an error and has to close. The movie I did was Pirates of the Caribbean. Are some movies not able to be converted this way, or is there something else wrong?

The idea is that it should work for any movie regardless of any protection scheme. However, when the movie is ripped it uses alot of harddrive space. It creates several files, all of which you must delete, except for the actual movie file, which is the *.avi file. It's possible that you may have run out of harddrive space. This happened to me and I had to delete all the extraneous files. Check your harddrive and see how much space you have left.

I had about 27 GB on my hard drive, have now deleted all the other files, but it doesn't work still. Do you have to delete all the extra files before the first time you try to run the movie file? Or are there other software applications that need to be on your machine?

Thanks

You don't have to delete any of those files, but they take up alot of room and you only need the *.avi files. After I had converted about 6 movies I noticed I ran out of room on my 80gig harddrive and it took about 20 minutes to figure out what the cause was and that's why I mentioned it here.

Back to your question. Where did you try to play it, on the desktop or on your Axim? If on the Axim, did you use TCPMP? Give as many details of what you did as possible.

The error first happened when I tried to copy/paste it from the My Documents folder to my flash card reader/drive. I have also just tried to open it in Windows Media Player on my laptop, and it gives the error message twice (for WMP and Windows Explorer) and shuts both down. As for the TCPMP, I don't know what that is. I was planning on playing it on my PDA that has Windows Mobile 5.

Thanks for your prompt help on these questions.

**Update: The error stopped appearing when I was trying to transfer to my handheld, and the movie now seems to be working great with TCPMP. Thanks!!

I don't really know how to solve your problem. However, I can help you with one of your questions. What is TCPMP? This is a free 3rd party media player which can play more than just .wmv files. It stands for "The Core Pocket Media Player." You can find out more and download here if you like:
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about

I use it. I works well for the movies and files WM10 can not play. I hope this helps a little. Good luck with the rest.

Thank you Steve. I used Fairuse today and coverted one of my favorite movies...Rounders....to play on my x51v. In fact, I'm watching it right now. I set it at an even 500MB and the picture looks great. I've used Pocket DVD Wizard v4 and movies at 700MB don't look as good as a 500MB movie using Fairuse. I'm a little annoyed that I paid about $25 for PDVDW. Oh well. I'm switching to Fairuse.

Thanks for the sticky! It helped me find all the codecs! Man. . . I can't believe I wasted $30 on PocketPlayer and its AAC Codec. . . dang it.

Thanks to Chalinga I added the link to TCPMP to the tutorial. Dmoody, glad you're up and running now. Jeffersonkim thanks for the nice words. Keep the comments coming. Let us know if we can add more links or info or help or whatever to make the tutorial better.
