I have tried every free dvd converter program out there and Fairuse Wizard is definitely the best. I actually tried it once before at the tail end of my search for a workable solution, but it didn't work with the DVD I was using so I gave up. I'm glad I went back and tried it again.
The best part is that it is all-in-one. I hate reading a tutorial and finding out that I require three separate programs and 124 different mouse clicks for each in order to burn a move. FU Wizard does it all. I also like that is is rather simple but allows "experts" to fiddle with more complex controls if they would like.
As for results? GREAT! I burned "Mystery Men" at 640x480 and it plays back on my Axim with no pixelation and smooth action. Size? Under 380MB. Pretty nice.
Great tutorial :approve: When its all done and over, APPROXIMATELY how much space does a "typical" movie take up? I know it depends on a lot of things, but in general does a movie take up a few MB, a few hundred MB, a GB...etc? Thanks.

You don't have to delete any of those files, but they take up alot of room and you only need the *.avi files. After I had converted about 6 movies I noticed I ran out of room on my 80gig harddrive and it took about 20 minutes to figure out what the cause was and that's why I mentioned it here.
Back to your question. Where did you try to play it, on the desktop or on your Axim? If on the Axim, did you use TCPMP? Give as many details of what you did as possible.
How much free space on your hard drive do you need per DVD? Most DVD's are single sided and max out at a little over 4 gigs right? Does FU need space for the image, the end product and some working room?
BTW, thanks for the great tutorial! I enjoyed the humor! =)

Step 8 of the tutorial is where YOU determine how much space the movie takes up. The more space you give it the better it looks. I choose 475mb, but some people choose more or less. Now, that's not including the other files that are created on your pc that you can get rid of.

I'm glad you like it, thanks!:approve: How much free space do you need on your hard drive? I never really measured it, but you need enough room to rip a DVD, and to create the file that goes on your pocket pc. I'm guessing it's 5-10 gigs. Next time I rip one I'll pay more attention and give you a better answer.
ok, I've tried a couple of ways to copy a movie, which worked, could not get them to play on my x51v. Now I have a much better explination of how.
I would say thanks, but now you are gonna cost me alot of money. Now I need to get either CF or SD cards with som GB to load up a few of my favorite movies.
This cool a big kudoo's and thanks for allowing it to the e-book section
Question....how long will it take to transfer a movie to a cf card using the active sync? And how many movies can I fit on a 1 gig cf card?
Thanks!
Wendy, I like to make movies at 475mb each for about a 2 hour movie. This can be determined by you in step 8 of the tutorial. Some people like to make them 300mb, some like to go as high as 750mb. The higher you go the better the picture. If you use 475mb then you can fit 2 movies on a 1 gig cf card.
Next issue is about transferring the movie to the cf card via activesync. Don't do it that way, it will take forever! Get a cf card reader, and transfer it using windows explorer. Transferring it via card reader will take 6-8 minutes per movie, maybe even as much as 10 minutes, depending on the speed of your comuter. That is far faster than activesync.

Happy movie-ing!
I have a card reader, however, I loaned it to my dad. I wanted to transfer a movie to take to the hospital tommorow and I can't go out tonight and get a card reader (closest store that would have one is about 20 miles away). If I just set the transfer before I went to bed and just let it run, would that be a bad thing?

You can copy any dvd, that's why the software is called Fairuse, you are making backups of your own dvds. In my opinion this software is as good as autogk in terms of quality, but it's easier to use b/c there is only one software instead of two. If you tried autogk, try this one and do a comparison for yourself. Let us know what you think.
I have used Fairuse to convert some of my dvd movies to view on my Axim. I now have a library of converted movies on my computer. I would like to archive them on a DVD or CD. What is the best way to do this.
