Archiving converted movies.

Stevenator65, Thanks for the reply!

Believe me i have tried everyway i know how to burn them to a dvd or cd, using nero or windows media player. No luck. I think that the problem may be that they are AVI files. Has anyone out there been successful at archiving these AVI files? If so, how?

Thanks!

I've burned AVI files before onto cd w/no problem. I don't know why you are experiencing difficulties.

I went back and use fu on zorro again. I saw where I went wrong on a few steps. stop the full auto mode. used the card reader on my pc to transfer onto my memory card for my axim. x51v. the movie plays. but it plays and stops. very jerky. the audio goes with the movie. it sounds and looks great when it is playing but I only get a few sec. at a time.

Is anyone of aware of the quality of DVD's ripped by "Pocket Dvd" at 128 or 256?

I've used Fairuse and the files are around 700 meg.

With fairuse you can make the files any size you want. 700 is a bit on the large size but it yields a better picture. Some peeple like it to be 500mb or less. It's covered in the tutorial.

x30 resolution & movie size

does anyone know- if i have the x30 (non-vga & i guess the 320x ___ resolution is what i'd use), what size of movie is sufficient...

in other words- with the resolution maxing out at 320x ___ will it make a difference in picture if i set the movie size to 475mb vs 300mb vs >475mb...

thanks.

bill

You can use any size you want. Just keep in mind that the bigger you make it the better it will look, but the more space it will take up. Why don't you find a five minute movie clip from the internet and try making in in 475mb and 300mb and see what the difference is on your pda. If you don't see a difference then use the 300mb.

FYI, here is some info that I found that might benefit those viewing this thread:

Originally this was posted at Doom9 by Celtic_Druid, so I can't take any credit for the work, just passing it along.

FairUse is GPL, that means that it can be sold, but the source code must be made available. I guess the full version source would be to available to those who have paid for the full version, however the light version source is available to all and the above patch fixes the limitations. No idea about the differences between the above and the real full version. But it can definatly encode more than 700MB's.
Here is the download link.

am planning on trying fairuse. but first, is the paid version worth the extras that you get? Are there any known issues with using fairuse and having other software like dvdxcopy installed?
Can you also explain a few pros and cons about installing tcpmp via activesync vs just using the cab file?

Try the free version of Fairuse first and see how you like it. I like installing TCPMP via AS b/c for me it's easier to control where it installs to.

Nice one - really like this utility :)

Can anyone advise if I'm likely to run into problems when I'm encoding using this utility if I'm also using my laptop to browse the web etc at the same time... ie. is it best to just let it run overnight when I'm not needing to use the laptop for anything else?

The first time you use it you'll see it can take several hours. Let it work overnight.
