Windows Media Video File Conversion

Sorry if this post is redundant...I've searched the forums from a few different angles and come up with a blank.

My dilemma, while syncing recorded TV from my Windows Media Center PC the Media player (rev 10) displays available space on my microdrive and only lets me sync what fits...in its perspective. However, when files actually convert (prior to snyc), they actually become much smaller. So, when I have 2 gig left on my Microdirve, I am unable to sync a movie (eg) that is 4 gig...even though if I tried the same operation on a blank drive (6gig), the file would sync over just fine. The resultant file would be much smaller...like 2 gig.

Is there an application available (or a feature of MS Async 4.1) that I'm missing out on that can convert the files for play on my X51v prior to syncing? Am I approaching this incorrectly?

Thanks for your responses,
Goodoz

I just don't bother syncing or copying media files over to the device ... I just view them directly over the network ( file remained on desktop PC ) :)

you can try the "resource" link up top and go to the "tutorials" & see what you can find :)

Thanks...that works at home, but I have a nice TV here that I usually watch :)

I'm looking for an airplane solution!

(I'll check out the resource link)

You can try windows media encoder. That should convert it down to size.

Try Crunchie, converts DVR-MS to xvid. View with TCPMP.
