I also just went through all this. I found the thing to do is to use fairuse then play the file with TCPMP. Its free and it works. I really just wanted to use Windows Media but it was more bother. WM on the ppc will not play avi files. dvix or other formats. I tried using Window Media Encoder but it kept crashing on the avi files also. But the avi files play fine on the desk top. So downloaded TCPMP and it worked right off. Even ran the avi file off the network share.

This is Correct, Links to both tcpmp and fairuse wizzard located in MYPDA section, both free!!!:approve:
also a Card reader is a must, they can be purchased anywhere for $10.00 or less

Mank, the easy manner for this is to
svnc Axim with PC
PC-open windows explorer & locate your video file(s)
Activesync select EXLPORE & open MOBILE DEVICE then find your card (mine reads SD Card) and open that folder
create a folder on SC Card called VIDEO
click and drag movie files from PC Explorer windows into the SD Card\Video folder
Be advised this is not a very fast process.

If you can pick up a card reader for your PC you can just copy files to your Card and then reinstall the card into your Axim

When you want to watch the movie just activate your video player and then open the file via the programs browse/open file command.

Hope this helps.

fustrations of a newbie.........ok let me start from the beginning, 1st off morning all it's 2:29am est i downloaded the fairuse software at umm lets say 11pm entered a dvd and the scan began, went to buy some milk came back and status bar only 19 percent done. So I leave my computer only to come back to it at 1:21 am and the status bar say 4% (1st question does fairuse start over automatically once it's completed) the reason because it 2:33 and i just open and the folder to were i want the filed saved and it shows 2 entries of my movie first file looks to be my original attempt which has a file size of 79mb and the second seems to be the current 288mb and climbing . 2 question should i leave the original or erase it? and third the writing speed is going at 16 fps can i change this.

PLEASE HELP ME, I'M ABOUT TO JUMP OFF THE DEEP END

There's a fairuse tutorial in "my pda". A 1.5 hour movie may take double that amount of time to convert. It's a slow process no matter how you choose to do it. Fairuse is free, easy and as quick as any method. It also lets you decide how large the output file will be. All your other questions are answered in the turorial. PM me if you have additional questions. Have fun.

The first couple of movies I used fairuse on worked as advertised. Now I have been attempting the animated "?Marnia The witch, wardrobe and wasabie?" anyway. When Fairuse is started it claims it will take 5 hours. I leave it running all night and in the morning it is 17% and says it has 20 hours to go. There may be some problem with animated films? For me its not big deal, I was just doing it because the DVD was in the house.

While Fairuse works well, I personally like the combination of DVD Decrypter+Auto Gordian Knot. Produces very consistent results, and you can choose whether to use XVID or Divx. There are nice tutorials on doom9.org.

fairuse will start over if you have 2 pass enabled it only shows the time for 1 pass and it also does the audio after the video is done

fairuse does the videoripping twice and the audio once. in the order video-audio-video. the time you get is the remaining time of the current proces. at the start of each proces it does not show correct estimations. (just like when you're copying a large file on your pc)
