I've checked all the threads for a good avi player. I downloaded and installed TCPMP and it seems to work very well. However, I was playing one avi and the video started to skip. TCPMP stopped itself and a window popped up saying I need to alter the "Normal Buffer Size." It's been preset to 2400KB, but I don't know what I should up it too.
I have an X30 with 64mg ram. I know this is probably a real newbie type question, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance:)
Why not just experiment a little? Up it by, say, 600KB and see if that helps; if not add another 400KB, then another 600, etc. Mine seems fine at 2400KB, but I encode my videos at a pretty low resolution so I can fit more on the card.

That sounds cool. I was gonna experiment myself, but I was just wondering if anyone had some preset setting that worked for their x30. I just don't want to mess up my axim or anything just to get the video to work.

Well, I moved it up to 5000KB, and it still seems to skip at times. Especially when there's lots of movement on the screen.
I've actually tried other videos and it really starts to hang up. I even get a loading simbol, the quicktime thing spinning on the screen. Does anyone have any recommendations for settings that might help?

Not sure why my post got moved. Is there any other place where I can find info for tcpmp settings for the X30?
It's not TCPMP it's your source videos. Something in the encoding is not good for Pocket PCs. Do you rip your own?

No, they're actually just avi I've had for a long time. They play fine on my computer. But for some reason parts of them hang up the Axim. Could my SD be too slow?
I used to use windows movie maker to re-encode my video to PPC size. But the quality sucked. I've recently come back to this forum and read a couple of threads about tcpmp working on avi's without re-encoding them.
Do you think I need to re-encode these still or make them smaller some how?
I think re-encoding would help. Let me see if I can find a link to a freeware re-encoding utility. SOmeone will probably beat me to it though...

Hey thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. I was wondering though. Are you able to use tcpmp with the normal settings? Have you changed any of the defaults?
bigds63 recommends Vitualdub. It's free and he's written a tutorial with lots of helpful pictures.
[edit] Yes I use fairuse mostly but DVD catylyst as well to rip for my X50v. I haven't had to change TCPMPs defaulst to view anything I've ripped with them. They work on the X30/High as well but use bigds63's settings for best results on your machine.

Thanks again Don't Panic. This should help. Anyhow, I'm going to try this program and the tutorial. I really appreciate your help.
I set my buffer to 16MB because I listen to streaming radio (and I have cleaned out the RAM quite a bit), and it is stable and safe. You can pause streaming media with TCPMP and fast-forward through commercials, if needed.

I would like to try that, but how do you clean up the RAM?

I was wondering which Axim you have? Also, is this hangup problem common with X30 mids?
