I should have never done this...I'm already shopping for a bigger SD or CF card!
I already use the Axim for GPS and reading eBooks, in addtion to all the normal stuff, but I'm loving watching movies on it. I ripped a movie using DVD Decrypter and then encoded using Auto Gordian Knot. I'm watching it now while I'm working on a project here at the office. Awesome!
Just curious, how small have folks shrunk their movies and still got a decent picture?
I went around 240 megs for a 2-hour movie and the picture is great on the X5 Advanced. I have a new VGA pda arriving today, so I will likely try it again at 640x??? and see how it looks on the new device.
I thought I'd see how small others have done and how it had come out for them.
I am always using my X50v for movies. I have the entire Firefly series, and the movie (Serenity) on my 2gb CF card.
I watch these and other movies while on the Express Bus. It sure beats balancing my laptop for an hour!
Each 1 hour episode came out between 62mb to 85mb, and the movie I got down to 167mb. At these sizes, the quality is very good except for very dark scenes, where it tends to get "blocky" (large areas where similar colors were blended together into one large block). I reduced the video on each to fit the 640x480 screen size, and rotated the image 90 degrees for landscape mode.
I just saw that Fry's Electronics has an ad that runs until tomorrow on 4gb SD and CF cards for just $109.99 each, with NO rebates. (Renton, WA Fry's Ad)

I am really thinking about one of each!
Outpost.com (which is Frys online store) has the 4gb for $99.99 plus tax and shipping, today and tomorrow (5/3 and 5/4/06) but also says "call for availability). I put one in my shopping cart and went to go check out and it didn't have any problems with that (I didn't actually complete the sale though)
I usually grab stuff like this at newegg.com (cheap or free shipping and no sales tax, plus you can pay with PayPal). When I checked a while ago the Ridata SD and CF cards were both under $100 for 4gb, but I just checked again and they are sold out.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled now. There goes what's left of my PayPal account balance!

LOL. The Paypal Account is no match for a healthy Axim!
Buy.com usually runs some decent deals (after mail-in rebates) on SD and CF cards and lately they have been offering free shipping. Sign up for their e-mail list and they send you "hot deals" about every other day.
I just bought 2 8gb seagate microdrives from outpost.com for 139 each...i have been checking my account balance to see when they have deducted the funds...i am still waiting...i hope they haven't run out of the drives. i get good quality around 200 to 275mb each movie using dvdshrink and divx depending of course on the length of the movie. you can't beat the entertainment quality of a movie on a dell
you guys are out of topic... well anyway say:
@Terryvi & Maximum Dude: what recoders you guys using?

Having messed around with 320x240 and 640x480 screen sizes. What I have found to be good for my x51v is to set the screen size on AutoGK to 512 and set the output to 450Mb.
A screen size of 512 make a happy medium for 320x240 and 640x480 PDAs. There is a "DivX DVD library" at work and this screen size enables most peaple to play the films on their PDAs. Makes the commute to work bearable.
I just wish development of AutoGK was to continue
