Use tcpmp.arm.cabs.0.71.zip. You may need to use some of the plug-ins as well depending on what video file format you use, but .avi files need no plug-ins.

Not quite correct. AVI is simply a wrapper for a number of compression schemes; depending on the codec used, a plug-in may be necessary.

For example, if you follow the How To: Encode Videos For Your PDA For Free sticky at the top of this forum, you'll produce Xvid/MPEG-4 files that will absolutely require a plug-in . . . and they're .avi files.

Hmmm...I followed the tutorial exactly and created an xVid movie. I installed the latest stable version of TCPMP and it played fine without installing anything else.

I just checked http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about and it says DivX and Xvid are supported video codes, so if you're using TCPMP you shouldn't have to load any plugins.

Regards,

Gary

I install the plugins because I never know when someone is going to use a different audio codec with there .avi file.

Oops, my apologies . . . my first foray into TCPMP was with MPEG4, and the file I attempted to play was an AVI compressed with Nero ReCode. TCPMP complained, and I needed to obtain a plugin.

Getting old sucks.

My assertion that AVI is simply a wrapper and that some AVI files will require a plugin remains, however.

Only problem, it does not play well files encoded with the QPM & GMC additions. In case files are encoded with these options you have to re-encode them.
Don't know of any player who can play files with these options, though.

QuarterPixel (QPM) and GlobalMovementCompensation (GMC) has long been a problem. Many hardware players like AivX (Sarotech) and most standard DVD players with DivX capabilities has likewise problems.

MP4 should not be a problem for TCPMP except with sound. Usually Advanced Audio Codec (AAC - Sony) is used. As this is a copyright-heftet codec Core can't touch this - but a plugin is available at rarewares (se link in MyPDA)

Remember that Mabin has made an excellent subtitle viewer (another link in MyPDA). Unfortunately it does not support SRT files but only SMI - there are converters to do this.

I used "subtitleworkshop" to convert many srt --->>> smi and able to play them on desktop system so I'm not noob per say with subtitle ... but I cannot get TCPMP subtitle to display subtitle...ever

all the newly converted SMI files works fine when played on desktop system

maybe I should try v 0.71 instead of the 0.72RC1 ( yes I even match up the subtitle plugin according to version number ... still don't work :) )

Sorry - forgot to mention - one have to disable the fast video decoder in TCPMP (no worry - the decoding speed is still OK).

First - start the right TCPMP (There is now a second one in \programs.
Second - in TCPMP Options - Video choose "Intel 2700G" instead of "Intel 2700G Decoder".
Third - Place the SMI file with the same name together with the movie file.
Fourth - sit back and enjoy.

With the new A2DP added in X50/51 forum today - you can also get the sound to your stereo bluetooth headset.

:) Will
