Streaming Media Player for Windows Mobile 5.0 OS devices.

I have seen some requests on these boards concerning being able to remotely access/monitor a usb webcam across a LAN or the Internet with a PDA.

I have always been interested in doing this so have been trailing software in an attempt to find an elegant solution. To my mind it is Unreal Live Server and Media Server with its ability to encode, stream and record
multiple live audio-video sources in MP3 / MPEG-4 formats. It's also free for home users and small businesses. :approve: Their website is http://www.umediaserver.net

In march they released a Streaming Media Player for Windows Mobile 5.0 OS devices.
I am unable to test the WM5 player as I run an x50v with WM2003se , but I have been using the player for windows and have been quite impressed. Even using it over a GPRS connection has produced a satisfactory image. The ability to also capture and encode on the fly the input of a TV capture card also opens up possibilities.

I have created a detailed tutorial on the installation and configuring of Live Server , Media Server and Streaming Player here http://www.soisanook.com/Urealmedia1.htm .
It contains a lot of screenshots in an attempt to make it very straight forward , but any feedback or questions would be appreciated.

Wow, the tutorial looks great! :approve: Awhile back I tried Unreal but it wasn't compatible with my tv tuner card but I'll take a look again to see if anything has changed.

Moved to Multimedia.

Are you just streaming from a tv tuner card? If so, you can always try ORB or Windows Media Encoder.

Excellent Tutorial. I've got it to work for vieo on my X51V, but not audio - I think it is something to do with the audio encoding.

Anyway, has anyone been able to work out how to use http streaming from a web page? I have IIS running on the same machine (running Win2000 server) and the uhttpproxy extension installed but can't figure how to set things up.
