This link has lots of info about watching online/streaming TV:

http://www.aximsite.com/whatcanidowi...php#WatchingTV

Software other than a multimedia player (e.g., WMP) is not necessarily required.

Moved to Multimedia.

I recommend the slingbox (www.slingmedia.com). They can be found for as little as $170, and can easily connect to any AV device. There is a coax input, svideo, and compsite input so you can have up to 3 devices connected. No monthly fees, no having to get used to a new interface, no having to have you computer running 24/7, have complete access to all of the channels you already get and all of your DVRed and on-demand content, and if you forget to schedule a recording while you are out then simply launch the player on your PDA and record or watch the show.
