Ideal video size using AGK.......Bradish come in?

I am using Bradish's excellent tutorial for encoding a video for my X51V. Is there a way to determine a custom output size related to the length of the original video?I have a 640x480@475MB from a 3.9GB VOB file - I am sure it could be smaller. Or do I simply try by trial and error until the video is not acceptable?
Thanks,
Ken

True - but there is no point in having higher quality than the VGA screen can resolve.

I find that a 250MB file for a 50 minute video clip gives as good a picture as I could wish for. Virtually DVD quality.

I don't use AGK because I started off using Smart Ripper and Pocket DivxEncoder (now upgraded to Lathe) and I am used to them and find them both very simple to use. I encode at 33 video quality (542 bits) and 6 Audio quality (96 kbps stereo) two pass encoding, de-interlace and VHQ advanced video options and 15 frames per second, which causes no flicker but helps to reduce the load on the processor during playback. The resulting .avi files play perfectly on my X50 using the power saving processor mode.

depends what it is... audiobooks are still great with a really low bitrate... music higher, and as for video, if i want quality i'll watch it on the TV. So I really compress it as far as it can go

100-150 Mb/30 mins is a good target for quality without overdoing it for 320x240 @15fps

Thanks,

Use Ashampoo Movie Shrink and Burn 2. It allows you to tell it how big of a file you want to make it, and has movie shrinking designed specifically for PPC's.

Sorry its been forever to get back to you I've away from home for acouple weeks at work, so i dont have a chance to stop by very often. Anyways, my estimated figure of 475 per movie was an average after i had tried different qualities with varying lengths, and the average I came up with was 475 which works fairly well given the fact that most movies end within ~20 Mins of each other. Now I chose this as a lossless quality because in most cases i had access to a computer on trips and i kept all of my movies on a set of DVDs so i could switch them out over the course of the trip. If you don't have this luxury however i can see your need in wanting as many as possible. How low can you go though? I dunno, I have pretty high standards, but without having tested it (no chance to at work) I think you could be able to squeeze a video in 275MB. I dunno, no harm in trying but some time gone, so you have nothing to loose. If that works for you go for lower. Tell me what you find out.

Peace.
-Brad

I use Agk for my movies and I have been able to encode them at 320 x192 using 2OOMB and the quality is not perfect but irs definitely warchable but now i can fit 2 Movies on my 512 MB SD card with no problem. Hope this helps!

my videos are at a quality that looks great on my pda but also look pretty decent on my laptop played at fullscreen so I only have to have one copy of the video that I can watch on anything that is what you want
