Fairuse have a Trojan?

I just downloaded the Fairusewizard program today and my virus checker said that the Fairuse has a trojan. Is this a false reading? Have any of you recently downloaded the Fairuse program and had similar warnings?

I've had no problems and I use Avast; try a different virus scanner and if you get the same result contact them.

I use Avast virus scanner. The trojan error showed up when I did the download and then scanned the "FU-Setup_LE.exe" program. My Windows Event Viewer shows the recorded error:

Sign of "Win32:Ransom [Trj]" has been found in "F:\Downloads\Fairuse\FU-Setup_LE.exe" file.

Since both of you have not had a problem, I went ahead and ran the install. After installing, I deleted the "FU-Setup_LE.exe" file and removed it from the Windows Recycle Bin. I ran a full Avast virus scan and there is no trojan or virus. I also ran a Webroot SpySweeper scan and there is no spyware.

I think the Avast scanner only picks up the trojan error on the downloaded install file "FU-Setup_LE.exe".

I've used FU myself and like the others ... no problem. AVG didn't detect anything and there appear to be no system problems associated with it at all.

I wouldn't have installed it anyway.

Some who spread malicious code (the evil scriptkiddies ;)) used to do it by infecting (d/l a copy of the actual program, insert a payload and u/l it again somehow.) legitimate files on legitimate servers. That is not very common today, but if you download a program from any other source than the original, you're at risk.

Are you sure you downloaded the fairusewizard from a legitimate source?

I downloaded from the FairUse tutorial (the sticky) from this web site. I tried the FairUse out and it created the avi file. I ran the virus scanner against the avi file just to make sure.

One problem that I have is Windows Media Player 10 (on my PC) is not displaying the video. I only hear the audio and see a visualization screen. I need to find the proper codec for the Windows Media Player 10. Microsoft recommends "wmplugins.com" but I do not know the correct one to pick. Any ideas?

** update **
I checked the FairUse FAQ web site and they use Xvid. I downloaded the Xvid codec from Microsoft and this corrected the Media Player problem. I can now watch the avi video. Looks great. Thanks everyone for your responce!
