Problems using Windows Media Player to play video file
Finally got the chance to try out a video file but run into some problems. Hopefully someone here can help me out.
I just got an Axim X30 few weeks ago. I upgraded the rom from A00 to A05. The windows Media player is version 10, same version as the WMP on my PC. I donwnloaded a short video clip called "Supermovie" to try out. using the Card reader I copied the video to my SD card. Using the WMP I can hear the audio but don't see the video on the axim.
Download the TCPMP (freeware) v0.71 play with the same files all went well.
I though it might have something to do with converting to WMP format so I used the WMP from PC to sync the video clip. Same results. When I checked the properties of the video files. I notice the Audio codec = Windows Media Audio 9.1 and Video is Windows Media Video 9 as well but I have WMP 10 on both device.
Can someone tell me why I only have audio and no video when using the WMP?
and how can I resolve the issue?

If it works in TCPMP then use TCPMP. Most people never use WMP.
Oh, in case you didn't know - TCPMP is THE video player for pocket pcs. Everyone who knows what's good for them use it.
I use 0.72 RC1 with all plugins. Can be downloaded here.
I use TCPMP too. It is the best Videoplayer i think. I have trouble with WMV 9 and WMP 10 too and i wonder why. I found no solution and changed the videosoftware very quickly. :)

You will find that you will stop using WM anyways and stick with TCPMP. I tried using Windows media player, but it just wouldn't play enough formats. So, everything is TCPMP now. Windows media player isn't worth the frustration.

Agreed. I will use TCPMP from now on just like I am using Winamp instead of WMP on my desktop. However, it will be nice to know the correct ways or steps to load & play video with WMP - without encoding
If you're looking to play videos in WMP, they need to be converted to WMV's (unless you want uncompressed / low compression videos). Even so, TCPMP will play them better than WMP can. My experience with WMV's in TCPMP was that they constantly keep stuttering and even going black during play when you change the screensize (which is either 100% or fullscreen in WMP).
WMV's are the easiest format to create videos with thanks to Windows Movie Maker and is a good format for compatibility as well as streaming over the Internet, but for sound and picture quality I'd recommend you avoid it.
Didnt want to start a new thread for this, anyways yesterday I resized a avi file to the 640 x 480 format and I converted a dvd to a wmv file with the same resize 640 x 480. Both clips when played with TMPCP played with sound but no video.
