Question DVD Ripper Software

OK Call me cheap!
I was wondering if anyone knew of any FREE dvd ripping software? I know Iam asking a lot but you never know until you ask.
I aquired some neat tricks fromhttp://www.aximsite.com/articles/link.php?id=67
about how to encode an entire dvd to fit on your SD card.
I have a demo version of #1 DVD Ripper and I can only rip part of the dvd.
I was just wondering if there was any freeware and if not, is this the best ripping software for the money?
Thanks for the advice!

I use SmartRipper which is free and very easy to use. It produces .vob files. There are planty of other rippers and other free software to encode the .vob to enable you to play it on your Axim. I use Lathe which is not free but it is an upggaded edition of PocketDivxEncoder which was free and I think it is still available.

Other highly recommend programs are Auto Gordian Knot and FairUse LE. They are both free. There are tutorials on how to use both of them on Aximsite.

For DVD ripping/decrypting, especially the ones with the newer protection schemes, AnyDVD is my favorite (on-the-fly decryption program), used in conjunction with DVDShrink (DVDShrink's ripping engine is old and can't handle the newer DVD protection). An alternative to AnyDVD is DVDRegion+CSS Free.

A freeware alternative to AnyDVD is DVD43: http://www.dvd43.com/
And DVDFab Decrypter (freeware): http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

DVDDecrypter, SmartRipper can still be used to RIP the DVD with the other software running in the background to remove the disc protection. DVDDecrypter and SmartRipper are no longer being developed, so they choke on any of the newer disc, especially from Sony with the ARccOS protection.

I use DVDDecryptor. Its good, but does not always work with every DVD. Can't seem to get through the security on some of the newer discs.

Well I was looking around for the same thing. I came across a free 7 day trial of DVD Catalyst. It took me a little while to get the hang of it but this program is AMAZING. It's regularly $19.99 or so and it's well worth the money. I converted a 2 hour DVD into a 250 mb file or so and plays great on my x50v. Takes about 2 - 3 hours for whole process. check them out... www.dvdcatalyst.com

The problem with other demo programs is that they only give you 5 mins or video or what not but this program gives you full control. Highly worth the look. Hope that helps.
