TCPMP To Be Renamed To BetaPlayer (Open Source,Free) and CorePlayer (Commercial)
UPDATE: Visit www.coreplayer.com to buy the latest version and www.corecodec.com/forum to view information related to the product and other versions. The original post can be viewed below:
Let me tell you what is going on and what you all should prepare for as we get ready for our 1.0 releases. But before that... let me break down each version of our player. - TCPMP will be renamed back to BetaPlayer™ and will be our Open Source playground for testing new technologies for third party licensing. - Giving birth will be the long awaited CorePlayer™ , it will be our Closed Source version with a lot of features not available in BetaPlayer. TCPMP=BetaPlayer 1.0 but is more stable, has skins, has new streaming code for UDP/HTTP, supports our new CoreMAKE system (see www.coremake.com ) and has everything you loved in TCPMP. On the otherhand while CorePlayer shares the code base of BetaPlayer it is targeted to a much more demanding segment that requires an expandable framework and supports anything you can throw at it (which it does). CorePlayer will also feature: an entirely new GUI interface, Advanced Streaming, UPNP support, Integrated webserver, Client Database... What OS's?: CE, Windows Mobile, Windows, .NET, Palm, Symbian, Brew, OS X, MacTel, Java, Linux GTK, Linux QT, Linux Qtopia, Linux Freescale. Oh... I should have also stated the obvious... BetaPlayer is GPL licensed while CorePlayer is Closed Source. CorePlayer also has several versions: - CorePlayer Mobile - CorePlayer Desktop - CorePlayerX Web Browser plug-in for IE, FireFox, Netscape, Mozilla and Opera 9 - CorePlayer Embedded, allows you to add our player into third party applications running CE and Windows. - CorePlayer Multimedia Engine is the future audio/video in games (more info later) - CorePlayer DS is a Directshow wrapper version of CorePlayer Desktop... it allows you to harness the power of directshow and use it with the CP framework. - CorePlayer PMP BetaPlayer will come with all the Open Source decoders. But CorePlayer comes with our own decoders we have been developing over the past 18 months which will vary on the product, they are; - CoreAVC - CoreASP - CoreVC1 - CoreAAC - CoreMP3 - CoreDVD - CoreAC3 - CoreDTS - WMA - WMV The only other source that is allowed under a closed source license that we use are: Focusbyte Tuny Engine License Tuny Engine, copyright (c) 2006, Focusbyte. zlib (C) 1995-2003 Jean-loup Gailly and Mark Adler MatroskaParser by Haali Copyright (c) 2004 Mike Matsnev. All Rights Reserved. Ogg Vorbis 'Tremor' integer playback codec Copyright (c) 2002, Xiph.org Foundation Intel 2700G Copyright (c) 2004, Intel Corporation, All rights reserved. Peal Copyright (c) 2004 Greg Parker. All rights reserved. Mobile Stream Rotation extension Public API for the Mobile Stream Rotation extension. I can report that the 0.81 beta that has been going around is a complete fake.... and not a good fake either ;-/ The CorePlayer Technology Demo will be released next week, however its by invitation only and CorePlayer 1.0 will be a few weeks afterwards. We will be making announcements soon on our OEM side of things once our new corporate website launchs and we bring up CorePlayer.com.

New features that i'm hoping for are streaming, and support for real media files, so that darn realplayer can be put to bed.
oh, by the way, links to preview sites are at www.coreplayer.com and www.tcpmp.com

Great news! Thanks for the heads up.
But what's the point of the poll? Also, since GSplayer and Mortplayer don't do video, why are they even included in the poll that has no point being here? ![]()

I think the major improvement in .81 is that it does subtitles. There is a nice looking skin included with it but I don't really see an option how to use it.

That and the included aac plugin. I found the skin setting, it's at the bottom of the 'lyrics' page. It doesn't work properly on my device though- the skin only covers a quarter of the screen...

I see. Interesting choice where they put the skin settings. I'm guessing the skin you have is QVGA only. Try modifying the bmp images (make them VGA) and see if that works.

Is it going to be free?
They are supporting many formats! All the way back to win 3.51! I thought win 95 was back far and most software dont support win 98 anymore.
