I am trying to use my Axim (x50v with WM 2003SE) to edit/create ringtones that I can then transfer to my cell phone. The problem I am having is that all of my music is in WMA format. I have not yet found a ringtone editor that will recognize WMA format. Any suggestions??
In the alternative can anyone suggest a good program that will convert WMA formatted music to MP3?
OK, I may have already posted this. To be honestm it has been that kind of a day and I just don't remember if I asked this already. So, if it is a duplicate, I aplogize in advance.
I am trying to create my own ringtones out of WMA files. Does anyone have any suggestions for software that I can put on my Axim (WM 2000 SE) x50v or my desktop (WIndows XP) that will allow me to do so? I have found lots of ringtone editors that will work with Mp3 files, but none for WMA. So, I am hoping that I am just looking in the wrong plance.
Oh yeah, and did I mention that I am really cheap so cheap is good, but free is better. :)
Have you tried windows movie maker on windows xp. It can do some editing with wma files. Or sound recorder. It can do some good wav editing, and then movie maker can convert wavs to wmas.
Here is a tutorial for recording sound in wmm and sr.

I think maybe the best solution would be to convert the wma to an mp3, do your editing, and then convert back. For a ringtone, the quality loss won't be that big of a deal.
One question though... are you sure your phone can use a wma as a ringtone? A smartphone, perhaps... but most non-converged cell phones will only use mp3s (if that).
Does anyone make their own ringtones?? I'm looking for something I can put on my Axim to use it to edit MP3's into ringtones. Can anyone recommend a good program?
I tried using Vito Ringtone Editor. It seemed to work, but I cannot figure out where it saves files after you edit the ringtone, they just disappear.

Doug, I've just merged your threads again. Please keep questions on the same topic in the same thread. If you want more input and your existing thread seems to have died down, there's nothing wrong with an occasional "bump". Thanks, it helps keep everything organized. :approve:
Sorry, Gigi. I'll try to be more careful about that. This is one of those puzzles I have been trying to work on, and I guess I just lost track of whether I had already posted something or not.
Convert your WMA to mp3's.
Here is a link to an App called DbPowerAmp that will convert your music to any music format such as MP3's,WMA,oggsVorb etc. with just a right click of your music file for the conversion on your computer. Then copy to your PDA or your Phone. also you'll need to edit the music to create a small song clip for use as a Ringtone. I use Soundforge for this.
I've made my own ringtones, but I have SoundForge (not a freebie and not cheap either). There are freeware apps out there that will allow you to convert a WMA to an MP3. I would go for one of these, do your editing and just send it as an MP3 (as that is what most phones accept for a ringtone). What type of phone do you have?
Thanks Fireshaper and Soundforge7. I checked out Soundforge. Looks great, but I was hoping for something much cheaper.
Since my original post, I realized my phone takes mp3 for ringtones. I've now found some good trials (still looking for some freeware) to convert songs from wma to mp3, but I have not found a good freeware or cheap-ware. :) mp3 or wma editor. Also, I was hoping someone might be able to suggest an editor for the Axim since I mostly have time to do this on the train. :)
Fireshaper, I have a Verizon Razr v3m. So, the next step, once I get something edited will be to figure out how to get it from my computer to the phone. Also, not a small task. :)
Have you looked into Motorola Phone Tools? It's not that expensive and if you have bluetooth you can just download it. Downside is that its only for the PC.
