Can't listen to audio streams

Hi All,

I have an Axim 30 with all of the current updates and I can’t listen to my favorite audio streams. I have installed Pocket Music, but that did not solve the problem.

Here are two examples of the audio streams to which I would like to listen:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/
http://www.thislife.org/

The BBC stream just doesn’t load at all.
The This American Life stream starts to load and then shuts off.

Do you have any suggestions for players that will play all of the audio streams that I can play on my desktop computer?

My impression is that many Web sites are becoming less and less PDA friendly. Is that your impression?

Thanks,

Max Lent

Have a look at the Realplayer plugin for BBC Live thread for info on the BBC stream and possible solution.

Thanks. That worked for BBC How about BBC

Hi,

I found the link to the BBC streams provided by Dave. It worked great.

I still need a solution for WBEZ's This American Life streams. Any Suggestions. When you click on their stream they download a small .m3u file that initiates the stream, but then the Axim shuts off the stream.

Thanks,

Max

Try to find a url ending in .asx. On your pc when the windows media player plugin is going, right click on it and go to properties, and you will find the url.

Here is one:

Thanks for the suggest. It works great for the BBC, but not for

http://audio.wbez.org/tal/315.m3u

The problem is how to play .m3u files.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Max

Try one of these 3 streaming mp3 files.

http://wbez-tal.streamguys.us:8020/content/315.mp3

http://wbez-tal.streamguys.us:8010/content/315.mp3

http://wbez-tal.streamguys.us:8000/content/315.mp3

http://wbez-tal.streamguys.us/content/315.mp3

Copy an paste one of these urls into file open in tcpmp. These are the 4 mp3s that were in the guts of the m3u file. They are all the same, except some of them are alternates.

These sound the same as the m3u file, even though its the same at the beginging, as in its not streaming live. IDK if its supposed to though.

Remember to copy and paste the urls intp tcpmp only. I am listening to it now, so it must work.

I had to reenigne my local radio website and make my own playlist so I could play it in TCPMP. WMP flat-out refused. You need to figure out the link it is looking at and put that into a media-player-friendly playlist. You have to view source on the link or the window that pops up when you do your thing.

contents of my playlist look like this:
Code:
[playlist]
File1=mms://a814.l1822742954.c18227.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/814/18227/v001/reflector:42954

Version=2

One of the lessons in getting streaming media to work on the axim, is digging into the guts of it while on a pc. Then find the source and see if it works on the axim. I had to do this also with a few radio stations, and they ended up playing in wmp, but not in tcpmp. (MMS: doesnt like tcpmp)

Pocket Brain,
Creating a link to mms://a814.l1822742954.c18227.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/814/18227/v001/reflector:42954 should work on Windows Media Player. What's the error message you get?

in general, TCPMP doesn't like streams, but the new Core/Betaplayer should support them fully. Problem is, that player had an initial release date in March, and now the date is September.

On the subject of websites, I think that sites are trying to show of the latest flash, plugins and new features in IE7 and Mozilla FireFox, making them very pda-unfriendly.

I agree, its all gone to flash. Even though flash 7 on the pda can render most of this, it is very slow, and you get "press ok to continue loading page" in pie.

Full-blown websites on pdas keep getting more and more impossible by the day. Most sites have flash today. A few years ago it was only in pop-up ads. Now its everywhere.
