Has anyone managed to install Real Player on Windows Mobile Version 5?

i get an error saying it needs to install active sync 3.8 or higher (well doh 4.1.0 not good enough?)

Real Player refer you to a lame link saying its bacause the device is not connected...

Anyone managed to get around this?

Nope aint that something I had the same problem with tomtom I have active sync 4.2 it wants 4.0 but I was able to circumvent this by using the zip format instead of the exe file. So now that you mention it we should look for a zip file and then just open it and extract the exe file and viola! Hope its out there

Basically, when you are prompted that you need active sync 3.8 to install the realplayer program, don't click "ok". And you should be able to locate the "realplayer.cab" file in the system temp folder. Copy the cab file to your axim to manually install it and you are all set.

But, the current realplayer version(at least 2 years old I believe) sucks big time, even on top models like x51v, it can only play those low bitrates rm or rmvb files.

you can extract realplayer.cab during installation
once you run the installation file, on the step 2, open My Computer (press and hold windows button, then press e)
go to c:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Local Settings\Temp, find the real installation folder (the folder is hidden)
or just press Ctrl+F to find within the entire Documents and Settings
find realplayer.cab
once you got the file, copy it to your CF or SD card (or simply kick the file to My Documents through bt), run the file in the unit

this file was released in 2002, which is pretty lame (it don't work on some GPRS and wifi connection, it don't work on async at all)
the file support is pretty limited (ra 3.0-5.0, ra G2, rm 7-8)
too bad TCPMP don't add ra, rm, rmvb support
