FairUse Problem/Need Advice

I have used FairUse before to transfer movies to my Axim thanks to Stevenator's great tutorial. However, I am having a problem transferring a movie using FairUse.

I recently recorded a movie off my TV using a standalone panasonic DVD recorder. I then ripped the movie to my harddrive using DVD Decrypter. That process created an ISO and MDS file with the entire movie (4 GB) and I can watch the entire movie on my computer.

Now, I would like to xfer the movie from harddrive to my Axim using FairUse. When I direct FairUse to the file ISO image on my HD containing the movie, it lists one file as 162 mb (shouldn't it be 4 GB?). I then run FairUse and it does its thing. However, FairUse is working to quickly from start to finish (normally the process takes a while) and only transferring about 8 minutes of the movie (not the entire two hours). Any help would be appreciated. I am traveling soon and am hoping to transfer this movie before I leave.

Thanks much. :)

I haven't tried using an ISO image but if you still have the DVD I would try that and see if you get a different result out of FairUse - are you using the "lite" version or the the paid for - the lite version has a 700MB size limit (I think that is output only but it might be worth checking on. It could explain why it it isn't seeing the 4GB; failing all else email FairUse and ask them why this is; I recently had DVD Shrink recommended to me as an alternative - it might also be worth a try (it's freeware - easily googled for)

Hope this helps

Edit: by the way which film?

If there is more than one video stream, you might not be processing them all. Did you divide the movie up by removing commercials? Make sure you get all the video streams. You might also want to set compression higher to shoehorn it all in to the 700MB size.

I have observed that when you use a dvd recorder at its lower resolutions where the final recorded size is less than 640x480 then fair use will not recognize the video as being dvd compliant and will not find the correct file to process. When you use a dvd recorder to record for 4 or more hrs on 1 dvd the resolution ends up being 352x288 which is svcd size. I asked about a way around this also because I have some dvds that I recorded 6hrs on each and cant use fair use to convert them.

Thanks for your replies. Axzilla's comments make sense and this seems like the most probable culprit. I haven't had any prior problems with FairUse converting large movies from other DVDs... only DVDs (of television) recorded via my standalone DVD recorder.

In response to some of the other posts... I did try using FairUse with the DVD itself and ended up with the same result. I have DVD shrink and have used it before... but don't think it will convert the DVD to xvid. Also, I did not remove the commercials from the recording.

Any other thoughts or comments appreciated.

Thanks much. :)
