Saving Streaming media

Does anyone know if it is possible to Save Streaming Media. I know you can record it in a variety of ways but thought that since the data is somewhere on your computer that you might just be able to save something that you have listened to.
It might be a dumb question, but I thought I would ask as there are so many people here who are far more computer literate than me.
Thanks

Well, for internet radio/Shoutcast stream, try StreamRipper (http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/) or StationRipper (http://www.stationripper.com/), both available in freeware versions.

Video is a little tougher. One way is to use the Microsoft Media Encoder, also freeware (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en) to do a streaming screen capture, but that does not also catch sound. Let's see if anyone else has other ways (keeping in mind for the purists out there that some streaming captures may be illegal. Don't flame - I'm just saying ...)

I use Total Recorder (www.totalrecorder.com). Can't recommend it too highly, it's superb.

What would be nice, though, would be an equivalent application that ran on a WM device.

Thanks Kenster, I'm really only after audio anyway. So I'll have a look at those. They may be just what I need.

If you're just looking to record audio, Audacity is free and works great!
