Icon13 CorePlayer Rocks or CorePlayer Sucks?

Hi,

As a big fan of TCPMP I jumped directly into it and bought the new player right ahead - but......
I remember reading about subtitlesupport - but I don't find it?
Mabin's subtitle plugin does not work anymore and neither any other plugin I've tried.

Also I cannot find the setting for what files should be registered for CorePlayer -
tryed to do it from Windows instead by showing that *.avi files always should be opened by CorePlayer ....
Now when I tap on a file - it starts CorePlayer - without the file - but with an error:
File not found!
/SD

Actually I don't get it -
A week ago I used TCPMP with all the plugins and full functionality ..... for free
Today I have the CorePlayer with less functionality, more bugs than TCPMP and I pay $25

Think I'l look at the $25 as a contribution the all the time I've used TCPMP for free
Uninstall CorePlayer - and go back to TCPMP with all the plugins.

Any suggestions gentlemen?
Regards Michael Williams

Well I'm sure there will be a lot of improvements (and added features) in the coming releases. So I'd say your $25 is well spent. :)

I don't know. First of all the $25 was supposed to be $19.99 so right off they didn't come thru as they said they would. The more I read about this product the more I am leary of purchasing it. I feel like a kid waiting for santa only to find out there isn't one.

Also, I have been using TCPMP for a long time now. So as long as CorePlayer is at least equal to TCPMP, I don't mind giving them $25.

I am just waiting for the reviews before I buy.

krwren, I had a chance to play with the Tech Preview. It was fantastic. A huge improvement over TCPMP. See my sig for a link to my review.

Doug? What about the "checking in" with the server I read about? What's that all about? I have been waiting for this and so anxious! But I don't hear much good stuff yet. Does it have the AC3 plugin already in it or does it need to have plugins as well?

Hi,

Think I'm missing some facts here - actually a lot of them to be honest.
What was the exact preview platform (Hardware / OS / patchlevel)?
What is the exact bluetooth stack used during the preview?
Which bluetooth headphone did you use?
Did you test the UpNP function of CorePlayer?
Did you test the subtitle functions of CorePlayer?
Did you test and compare the playback performance of CorePlayer up against TCPMP in the latest version?
(Those movies I've tried until now are skipping frames every now and then - something that never happened in TCPMP)

So - to make it short - what can CorePlayer do that TCPMP can't?
(and you did not se skinning)

Lostjak, the checking in feature was not available in the tech preview, so I did not get to play with it. My understanding from BetaBoy, however, is that it is all part of their intention of creating a "mobile media community". This checking in is related to the seek and share features which should be coiming soon. There has been a lot of talk about this being very big brotherish, but the point is not to monitor or disable your device. From my understanding, the point is to update and allow you to participate in this feature.

Michael Williams. Here are a few of the answers to your questions:

1. Dell Axim x50v with WM 2003SE (Bios 05)
2. Widcomm BT tack with the HP high quality audio download
3. Motorola HT 820 BT Headphones
4. I did not specifically test the UpNP function.
5. If I recall, the subtitle function was not completed for the tech preview. As I mentioned, many features were not available or were disabled for the tech preview.
6. I did test playback between TCPMP and CorePlayer. To be honest...both looked excellent to me. I had no problems with skipping in either one (using WMV formatted video clips).
7. I was not able to utilize the UNiversal Skins fetaure because they had not been completed in time for the tech preview release.

Lostjak, that is exactly my understanding. Their intent is to create more of a community. So yes, it is a peer-to-peer type thing.

I am also anxious to see how this works.

So, I see on the fronpage here that the $5.00 off coupon code is listed. How great for those of you that waited. I guess I'm a day late and $5.00 short. :(
Oh well, I guess they can just look at my $ as a donation for the free time I used TCMP. BTW I think this is a great product.

Hi,

I now succeded in getting the setup you are referring to.
Can you confirm AVRCP to be working in the released version 1.0?
I got the same hardware and software and no remote control from the Motorola 820 headphones - no matter how hard I push :)

I am perfectly happy with TCPMP. It has all the plugins I need and I really don't care about skins. It plays divx video and Ogg Vorbis audio so I am happy!

I'm wondering what happened to the Settings or Options dialog -- like buffering and stuff, I have the feeling I'm missing out on some options.

BetaBoy has said that an update is slated for Thursday/Friday to re-add the options panels. They ran into a problem that prevented them from including it reliably in this release.
