Other than this minor problem, I'm loving my new Axim. Windows Media Player was working originally, but I don't know what I've changed, or installed that would make it act this way.
This is the error message that I get when I try to open Windows Media Player on my Axim. "There are no skin files present on your device. Either reinstall WMP or go to http://www.microsoft.com for more skins." I've uninstalled WMP several times, and tried reinstalling the version off of the Dell Companion CD, and I've also downloaded the PocketPC 2002 version off of microsofts site. But, I still can't get WMP to open up. What am I doing wrong?

This is a real shot-in-the-dark, but you might try taking out both batteries and starting over from scratch. Assuming that the system ROM is read only, it should restore to stock. My Axim crashed so bad twice on the first day I had it, I had to remove the batteries to unfreeze it. Hard reset didn't function, but it hasn't locked up since. Freaking Media player blows. Loaded Pocket TV player for vids, still need a good audio player.

I just found out I was pressing the record button instead of the concealed reset button when I had my problems.
Removing both batteries should be the same as a hard reset ... I think.

Mike,
Thanks for the advice. I put off doing a hard reset as long as I could, but I finally did it, and it fixed all my problems. Windows Media Player is working fine now. The hard reset wasn't that difficult to do, I understand your thinking the record button was the one to push, the reset button below it is almost hidden. But, by holding down the power button, and pressing the reset button with the stylus for about 2 seconds performs the hard reset, and everything goes back to the way it was when I took it out of the box. I backed up everything first, and most of my stuff was on my CF card, so I didn't lose hardly anything. Good luck with your Axim. The more I play with mine, the better I like it. Doing a hard reset this early in the game was good practice, but I don't want to have to do it very often.

I know this comes to late for you (already did a hard reset) however I have a fix that worked for me in the event somebody else has this problem.
Upon going to the Microsoft webpage and downloading the update to WMP, I had the same issue. What I did to fix the issue was download new skins (you can get the default or add new ones) to my PC. I found the skins by doing a search on the Internet for Windows Pocket PC Media Player skins. Install them onto your Axim using the supplied instructions from Microsoft and your fixed.
