receiving broadcast audio with VBR (Vairable Bitrate)

I want my X51v to receive audio broadcast from my PC at home. I know how to do it by using Windows Media Encoder (WME).

However, I can only set CBR (Constant Bitrate) instead of VBR (Variable Bitrate) for live broadcast. Is there anyway I can use VBR for live broadcast? If not possible (just as WME told me when I tried to do so), is it possible to run one instance of WME to have live recording to a file and then hv another instance of WME to broadcast the recorded file?

I need to ask b'coz I listen to the sound thru my bluetooth headset. If I use CBR, even if the bitrate is just 4-5kbps, my headset will drain all power quickly. By setting VBR, I hope that my bluetooth headset will only receive signals when there is a sound generated on the other side.

Thank you in advance...

I have never had much luck with WME but have used ORB successfully. Have you tried that? (Sorry, I know I didn't answer your question.)

I don't think that the bitrate of the stream is going to make any difference.

You might want to look at icecast or shoutcast. The audio quality of OGG or MP3 blows WMA out of the water. GSPlayer streams icecast/shoutcast very well.

I need the streaming audio from my PC at home b'coz I hv a system at home checking the financial markets real time and send out a signal when certain criteria are met. So what I need is just low quality voice level audio (at <8kHz bitrate). I am just thinking of using VBR so my PDA/bluetooth headset don't need to receive signal all the time to cut the power consumption.

The problem is that I need to keep the bluetooth connection active between my PDA and bluetooth headset all the time which may consume quite some power anyway even if I set the bitrate lower.

Any advice?
