Help ... I think I've corrupted my brand new CF card
Hi Folks,
Newbie here. I just got my new 4G CF card for some movies I wanted to take on vacation with me. I plugged in my CF reader and drug the 3 movies onto the card. Unfortunately, I was having a little bit of trouble viewing the movies on my Axim. So, I decided to start over.
I plugged teh CF card back into the reader, selected the 3 .avi files, right clicked and said delete. This seemed to remove the content but not the actual files. They were 0 bytes.
Not to be put off, I created a new folder with a different name and copied one of the .avi files from my PC to the CF card. Popped the card into the Axim and it can't see the new folder.
Next, I used the file explorer on my Axim to delete the original 3 files from the CF card. Put the card back into the reader and re-copied a single .avi file onto the CF card in the original directory.
But, the Axim can't see any files in that directory.
On windows from card reader, go to my computer, right click on the drive for the cf card and select format.
Thank you. I did the reformat and recopied my .avi file but the Axim won't recognize the CF card at all now.
As a last resort, I tried to reformat again and it looks good until the end and then I get an error that says "Windows was unable to complete the format." "The disk in drive E cannot be formatted."
UGH! Now what do I do?
Maybe you want to either:
1) Use your card reader with another computer and try to reformat from there, or
2) Use another card reader on the same computer or if it fails try on another computer with that card reader, or
3) If it still fails, bring the CF card back to the place you bought it and either ask them to reformat it or replace the card..

Thanks mini_me. I never thought of the second computer trick and I'm sitting next to two as I type. LOL. Unfortunately, it didn't work with the other PC either and I don't have another card reader. Since I bought it online, I guess that I'm going to have to return it after my vacation. So, no movies for me. :(
where you trying to open an .avi with wmp it will not see them because .avi is not compatible with wmp you need to install tcpmp aka betaplayer to play .avi files if that was your real problem

Thanks but I was using TCPMP. My real problem is that I can't access the CF card with either my PC or my Axim and I can't seem to reformat it either. :(

Have you run chkdsk on the when plugged into your computer through a card reader?

In Explorer, I tried formatting SD card, I also got the message that this drive cannot be formatted. So I shut down Explorer and click "My Computer" and tried formatting there, it worked. Maybe you can try that.
Ok I had kinda the same problem. I was transfering movies too and in the proess it stopped my transfer and froze. I pulled the card from the reader and when I put it in it wouldnt recognize the card at all. I used a partitioner to reformat the card but now a 2gb card shows as only 1gb. Any ideas. I dont have my reciept anymore so I cant RMA it. Any ways to recover it????

I had a similar experience with my 8GB Ridata CF. Dragging the files killed the disk off the box initially. I re-format the CF in Windows but then the Axim won't recognize it. It took me a while until I realized that I needed to restart WM5. After a soft reset everything was fine.

Anyone know how to "fix" my problem?
Thanks,

I think your card is defective. I bought 2 2 gig adata sd cards last year. 1 still works to this day, the other one stopped working after after a few days and the problem is almost identical to what you described.
These things happen. Hopefully your warranty is still valid.
there was a HP program that could "force" a format on a a flash card try searching for format utility in google.com u might come up with something. This program was developed for such situations i think if not it was created for handheld support.
