best dvd converter

I have tried and tried to find a good dvd movie converter so i can watch movies on my X51v. I have tried sbp mobile dvd and Pocket dvd and both of them give me audio problems . The audio is not very loud and is very low quality. Video is ok though ..

Is there a better converter to use? Also does the audio have to be in 2 channel stereo to work? Some discs I have made only have 5.2 dolby digital .. Is there where the problem is?

Thanks

Have you tried playing your video on other gadgets (computer, stand-along mp4 player, etc.) to compare the audio quality? -- Just to rule out the axim being the source of the audio issue.

No audio issues for me when converting dvd with 5.1 dolby to divx/xvid with mp3/ac3 stereo audio. Audio and video plays beautifully on my x51v.

I've used:
- fairuse wizard lite (freeware)
- autoGK (freeware)
- clonedvd mobile $
- pqdvd mobile $

Video quality was about the same for me for all 4. The freewares tend to just take longer to convert, but the freewares also allow more functions/choices than the commercial programs.

I've used:

Fairuse (free and very easy to use)
DVD Decrypter + auto gordian knot (free, but not as simple to use)

Fairuse is by far the easiest to use out of all of the video conversion software I have tried.

OK I am getting the hang of it now .. I think it was the DVD I was using ...

Now my question is .. If I have the DVD I want to copy backed up on my hard drive and say I have 4 .VOB files .. how do I join those togather so I don't have to open each file to view part of the movie?

Or is it better just to convert directly from the DVD disc?

I am going to try out fairuse now

Thanks

When you say "view" do you mean to watch the harddrive copy of the movie on your computer? If that's the case, windows media, windvd, and programs like that are smart enough to know that all the vob are of one dvd and will play your video as if you have the physical dvd disc.

Now, if you mean to convert the harddrive copy to divx/xvid, the converting programs are also smart enough to know that the vobs belong together. AutoGK, Clonedvd mobile, pqdvd can convert harddrive copies of video.

BUT, Fairuse cannot. You need to have the physical dvd for Fairuse. There are two ways around it. One you can make an iso copy of your dvd and save that on your harddrive. Fairuse can convert iso's.

Second, if you have started to play with Fairuse, you will see that the first part of the converting process is for Fairuse to store a copy of the dvd onto the hard drive in "Fairuse" format. You can halt the process after that step and put the project in queue. I do that often so that I can batch the process and convert multiple dvds in the queue.

Sorry for being so chatty. If you need any clarifications, let me know.

You can put it into img format using DVDdecrypter(free). I use Omniquit Lathe for converting dvds. It actually detects when you are using dvd and will select all the VOB files. It does a very good job and has nice options like customized filesize(video bit rate), audio bit rates, and much more.
