mp3 skiping in tcpmp

So I have gotten into listening to audio books on the axim in the past 5 months or so but I am beginning to notice that the audio is skipping. I think that the problem is getting worse. I have the mp3's on one of those seagete 8 GB microdrives. Could it be the mp3's? I have not tested them by playing them on a pc because I might have to sit down at the computer and listen for 45 minutes or so and I would get bored. I usually just listen in the car when I can't really do anything else any way. But even so I have never heard mp3's do this before. Even poor quality ones. Crappy mp3's usually just don't sound good but they still play smoothly. Any ideas?

Buffer. Make sure you're using Microdrive Mode and buffer several MB for each song.

How much buffer is recommended to deal with such an issue? I have the buffer size under microdrive at 40960 KB and normal buffer size set at 1200 KB. Preload at underrun is set to 70% and microdrive starts at14720 KB. Shouldn't that be adequate? I already use tcpmp in microdrive mode, and every time I soft reset the drive is in as they are somewhat difficult to remove.
