Motion blur in TCPMP / Coreplayer MP4
Hi folks,
I've got a strange one. I'm sure I'm missing something:
I can play mp4s on my TCPMP player fine, unless they are h.264 - I haven't yet bought the avc plugin for that. I have a TV program that a friend made for me - it is mp4 video, aac audio, which works fine. 384X288, FR=23.976. All this usually works fine. However, when I play this one, any motion on screen causes a huge pixelation / blur, like the people are melting. If I pause and fast forward, it's fine. But, playing at normal speed makes a huge mess if there is any motion.
TCPMP is using the CoreASP codec. I have all the plugins from Picard's site. (Is there a way to force TCPMP to change codec?)
Anyway - I've been struggling with this for days, tried every setting I can think of. ANyone know what this motion blur is attributable to? I CAN play this on my desktop using Nero showtime with no problems.
help!
Thank you!

I think that the file has GMC or QPEL.. you can check if this is the case by using the program g-spot to determine what codecs are in use by a media file.. playback for these 2 encoding filters is very processor intensive..
if this is the case you can re-encode the file to strip it out..

Thanks very much for the response - it's been a very frustrating problem for me.
Downloaded G-Spot (very cool little app, by the way!), but unfortunately, it seems to only be able to identify what codecs are in AVI files; won't accept the mp4 file.
However - I asked what the person used to rip the videos:
Video: ~490Kbps -VBR- Nero Digital MPEG-4 ASP (Advanced Simple Profile)
Sound: ~48Kbps -VBR- Nero HE-AAC (Advanced Audio Codec)
Does this tell you anything? Doesn't seem far off from what I've been able to play in the past.

Ok - seem to have found a fix... if not a solve:
The part above about the NERO encoder got me to Nero's site, where I was able to register my product and receive the Nero Showtime Mobile application. Installed it, and *presto* the video works nearly perfectly. Not quite as nice as the ones I've played through TCPMP, but darn close.
Anyway - I can now watch my shows happily. I just wonder what the difference is? I will still use TCPMP as my #1 of course (I love that program), but for these shows, at least I can watch!
I'll check battery for Nero vs. TCPMP and report back if anyone is interested.

Nero Player vs TCPMP
Thought I'd update after using the two players quite a bit. TCPMP is HANDS DOWN the better player. Not even a question. Functionality on Nero is terrible, it's buggy, audio is quiet, and the battery usage is about 20% worse for the same length video. The only advantage I've found is that it plays Nero compressed videos where the Core player (as yet) will not.
Anyway - thought maybe someone would be interested.

Thanks for the info! I'm sure this will solve issues for other members, and battery info is always welcome.

I have a movie that is the same way and has GMC, and it is doing exactly what you are describing, I am going to try re-encoding it with virtualdub now, so this I hope answered my question too :P
