A Quality DVD to 51v Tutorial. It's great and works!

Wow!

I just spent the last 4 hours working on this project and came up qith a 5 star winning combo for puting DVD's on the 51v! It's flawless and so easy. The draw back is you need 3 programs to do it right and I mean it does it right!

AnyDVD and CloneDVDMobile here Both AnyDVD and CloneDVDMobile have a fully operational 21 day(?) trials.

You'll also need the new Spb Mobile DVD here Trial version only does a few minutes of video with their logo to show you how it works. Full version is fantastic!

I had all 3 so started playing around. I've done 4 DVD's so far and all finsished products are under or near 300MB each!! The movies and sound are fantastic!

OK here ya go. ...

1. Start Any DVD ansd select the drive with the DVD. It runs in the background.

2. Start CloneDVDMobile.
A. It gives you a selection of file types. Select Generic (DivX) and click next.
B. The next screen select in the drop down box and the location of your DVD and click next.
C. Next is the Audio and sun title settings. I used the defaults. Click next.
D. Next is the output metjhod and again I used the default settings except I select 50% on the "video quality". Here you also use the the drop down box wherew you want this file to go. It will create an AVI. file. Now click "GO". Now CloneDVDMobile wil create your movie in a AVI format. Takes about 30 minutes so I go surf the forum or whatever. When it's done click ok and close CloneDVDMobile.

3.Close down AnyDVD (icon) in your system tray[/B].
A.

4. Now start Spb Mobile DVD .
A. click next.
B. cjhoose "video file" and browse to the AVI file you just created with CloneDVDMobile and click next.
C. The next window will show a preview and in upper left cornwer should say "convert entire movie". Now click next.
D. Ojn this screen I use all the defaults on this screen and it works great. click next.
E. Next screen "quality and size I once again use the defaults. Click next.
F. Output file screen. I click the top option "local hard drive and pick a file to place the finsished product click start.
G. the next screen produces your finsished product and puts in in the file you decided, I check the top item "Smooth preview".

After it's done (about 30 minutes) simply place the 51v in the cradle and transfer it to the 51v from the file on your hard drive. Once you've transferred it use the file explorer to find the movie anc click on it and the Windows media Player does the rest!

You can truy and do all this for FREE and try it. If you like it then of course you'll have to buy the programs however all but Spb Mobile DVd have trial periods so if it works for ya then buy Spb Pocket Mobile and have a blast until the trials for the other 2 run out then you'll have to purchase them to keep making the mobile DVD's. After I did a couple it's real easy. if I can do it anyone can lol. The outocme is absolutely fasntasstic! I have a file on my tower called Axim movies where I put the finiahed product above. i then simpluy place the Axim 51v in it's crasdle and transfer them to my 2GB Sd card on the Axim. When I'm done or want to remove the movie I simply dlete it and move more over. Simple srtuff. This seems like a lot, but it's not. After you try it becomes a breeze and you have a quality, easy to do and small files fantastic quality movies on your 51v.

I spent most the day working on this and hope it helps some out here. It sure did me and now I'm going to go kick back in my laz Z Boy and watch a couple great movies!

I don't want to rain on your parade, you have obviously spent a lot of time on this, nice work. But, you can convert directly using Fairuse Wizard and put it straight on your Ax. I think fairuse is still free. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Edit: Just read your other thread, and I can see that there are a variety of different issues for people. So maybe my comment about Fair Use isn't relivant here. As I said before, nice work!

Feel free to rain on my parade. Fairuse did not work for me as I kept getting conflicts so I gave up on it like some of the others. This worked and is actually pretty easy and the finsihsed product is fantastic. Once I got it down it's basically a 1,2,3 step and done deal.

Yes this did take some time and effort and it's for those like me who have conflicts due to other programs installed and couldn't solve the issues it works wonders. that's all.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I agree with you. I guess I'm just lucky that it works for me without any problem. All the best and well Done

Fairuse Wizard

Thanks for you work on this. As for me, FairUse Wizard works great. I just converted X-Men2 yesterday. Popped in the DVD, told FairUse I wanted the file at 250 megs, left it running for maybe 2 hours and that was that. Looks great, sound is perfectly in sync, and with a 2GB sd card, I have no worries for space. So if FairUse will work for you, it seems to be a free, simple, one-step solution, but if you have problems with FairUse, there are lots of alternatives.

Why do you need spb mobile dvd when you have clonedvdmobile? I've used clonedvdmobile before and the divx file it produces works fine with tcpmp.

I also use fairuse mainly because I find that it gives a better quality picture than clonedvdmobile. It's slow, but the quality is worth it. I sometimes use autoGK and it's a nice program too.

Anydvd is a nice decryptor.

As mentioned, why use 2 DVD-to-PPC progs? I've tried CloneDVDMobile and it worked well with TCPMP (which I think everyone should have on their Ax great piece of freeware--get the few available codecs too).

Fairuse seems to give the best end results, but isn't as quick/easy to use as others like CloneDVDMobile.

I've played with a few different programs trying to figure out the best compression/file size ratio for DVDs. So far, 100mb/30min @ 24fps seems to give the highest quality with the lowest file size (movies on TCPMP at fullscreen look amazing). To me, at least, any less than this and I can start to see artifacts and blocks.

Nice concise instructions!

I have used several different methods, and I find that using DVD Shrink (if you can find it) and AutoGordian Knot is an easy to use system that rivals harder to use methods. The biggest advantage to this method is that both programs are free.

I first use DVD Shrink to backup the DVD to a folder on the hard disk.

Then I use AGK to make the movie.

I get between 250mb to 300mb per 2 hour movie, based upon the compressibility of the movie scenes.

Since I use a 4gb CF card for storage, and several 1gb SD cards for media, I can carry several movies wherever I go. I never travel without the Firefly collection!

Keep grinning dudes!

Just curious, why use Any DVD and Clone DVD before using SPB's offering? Are their DVDs that SPB won't convert?

OH well. I seemed to have a problem with all the above mentioned programs due to one conflict or another and found a work around. Worked great for me. I was getting a bit disapppointed and disheartened lol.

I had the programs and thought maybe someone else might be having similar problems. I have now retired from my tutorial days.

As much as I put into it do you think if any of the above mentioned had worked I would have gone through all this lol? No, I would most likely would have been watching a good movie on my Axim lol.

thefiredude, thanks for posting this tutorial. I've moved this to Multimedia since it should be helpful to more than just X51 owners.

thefiredude,

I appreciate your effort. No one is obligated to post tutorials or reply to posts. The fact that members of this site do so is why I visit this site so often.

I think you're getting so many opinions and questions because many out there are able to convert videos with just one converting program and one decrpytor program (e.g., dvd shrink, dvd decryptor, anydvd).

But, there are probably others out there that will find your solution to be the answer to their prayer.

lorrborr ....

Thanks for the note. I had many conflicts most programs were not working for me for some reason and had a hell of a time trying to find out what the conflicts were. This what I wound up with as a fix. It's sure the long way around and would have welcomed a single program source to accomplish my needs! Oh well even though it has become easy as 1,2,3 for me this way. Maybe others who are having the same problems can benefit.

I should have been clerer in the beginning of the troubles and conflicts I was having that led to this tutorial and process. Sorry about that everyone.
