I have been using fairuse to convert videos, which does a fine job, but I recently bought an iRiver Clix and found it couldn't play the videos I had converted with fairuse, so I looked for an alternative way to convert and found "iriverter". Iriverter is great and should also work fine for converting videos for your axim as well. It includes pre-configured setups for the following media players.
Creative Zen Vision M
iAudio X5 series
iRiver H300, PMP, Clix/u10
you can select video size, depending on the device you select, as follows
160x128
320x240
512x384
640x480
It also has sliders that let you change the video and audio bit rates.
Iriverter can convert from a DVD, single video file or a directory of video files.
I mainly used the directory option to re-convert the fairuse videos (OGM format) to AVI format for the Clix. Very handy, it took about 12 hours to re-convert 24 full length movies. Just started it and let it go overnight and the job was done the next morning.
Only disappointment, so far, it doesn't seem to be able to convert Windows Media Center recordings to a format either my Clix or Axim can play. It doesn't seem to even recognize the WMC file format as a video format.
To get iriverter just google for it. It is open source.:approve:
